Sort of looks like you heated up the mag release and used it to do the stippling. Looks good though.

i use a plastic welder with a tip that i have made for the texture. the point of the grip reduction is to reshape the grip. under the trigger guard and the back strap are the big ones. grip reduction might not be the right word tho use on the xd's it's a throw back the days of trying to make "Blocks" not suck. i do remove material around the circumference but not a lot like i do on the "B 21" "B 19" B 17" or even the sti's
