I guess you could carry it in the front of your waistband, opening the fly for the grip and mag to stick out

One of my local shops has a 45Rnd drum mag for 1911's.

Ive actually used one of those before.. It was a 50 round mag and it was completely awkward to use. Although the cool thing was that you could actually use it as a monopod if you were the right height.
