Some pr0n + Comparo Pics
Let me show ya'll a few guns. The backdrop: a John Deere blanket, of course.
Here's a Mark 23 and a G20 for a size comparison test (a G20 is roughly the size of a G21) ![]() And just so Mark doesn't get cocky, here he is with a S&W 500 ![]() The Mark 23 would rather hang out with his little buddy than the 500, though, to be honest: ![]() These are a bit larger for clarity (they were huge when I transferred them to my computer, like 3000 X 3000. My next post will have comparison pics of the XD45 and the Mark 23. |

Bottom's up!
![]() I couldn't get them both to sit where you could look down the sights of them both at the same time, so I did the closest I could to that. Eh. ![]() Comparison picture of the recoil springs, just for scale purposes ![]() Teh secks ![]() Just to clarify, the XD at mid-500 dollars is expensive to me, so the Mark 23 is "I ate crackers and sandwiches for two months to pay for it" for me. And honestly, let me bust out a pic of the ONE gun I would keep if I had to pick just one. ![]() Eat your heart out, boys. Marlin 982, .22 Mag, with a 15 (count it, FIFTEEN) dollar BSA scope on it. I love this little rascal. |

The best way I can describe it is that it gives a sharp "flip" up at the barrel. By comparison, a Taurus Raging Bull 454 (which I also have, but didn't take a pic of) has recoil that is more of a "push" straight back into you.
If you've ever shot a Ruger Redhawk with wood grips on it, that is punishing. The 500 isn't light work, but comparing it to a .44 Mag with wood grips and a stout round, the 500 isn't too bad at all. |

Mighty fine lookin' scope! Nice weaponary...Is that a word? I hear you traded for the Ruger through the grapevine...Saw Wes today and he was tellin me bout it. I guess that is the one you traded for. He said something about you two going somewhere shooting this weekend. I think I might be able to do a lil shootin now. My shoulder is better. I will have to ask my PT to make sure. Figure he will say yes....That is if you all want a 3rd wheel to tag along. Good Day!

Doc, I'm actually pretty stoked to shoot this weekend, we have an above ground pool that my dad is gonna knock down, and he requested that I execute it for him. PLUS I have at least one, possibly two 19 inch televisions that my boss is throwing away that we can kill. I know positively there's one, it's in my truck as we speak, the other one may get sent to death row tomorrow (i.e., given to me).
If you're up to it then it would be fun not only to shoot with you, but just to see ya again, it's been a long time, man. I think I have a few 500 rounds sitting around the house, I wouldn't spark that puppy off with a shoulder that just had surgery, though. I had a cousin who loves guns come over from Germany, and it broke his heart that he came soon after a shoulder surgery that he had as a result of a motorcycle accident. I'm thinking that Friday I'm gonna go buy a box or two of plinkin' rounds for either 9mm or .45, probably one of each, and get some shootin' done with Wes on Saturday. He has a SWEET HK 40 competition model that he hasn't even put the first round through, he's had it for about three months and hasn't shot a single round through it, been waiting on the opportunity for us to shoot. So I'm hoping Saturday works out to where we can shoot after I get off work at noon. If you can make it Saturday, that'd be cool, PM me and tell me what your schedule is looking like. Bring that Bersa and let me squeeze a few out of that puppy. I will let you shoot my M&P Compact, but I guarantee you that after you shoot it, you will want one of your own. It is an amazing gun. You remember how the first time you shot your XD45, you couldn't believe how sweet a gun it was? I mean, I'm assuming that's what happens, that's what's happened to everyone who's shot mine (including me). Well, it's that same kind of feeling shooting that M&P9 Compact. I got that scope because when I got my Marlin (for about 180 bucks), that was the only scope in the store that "matched" my gun, plus I figured to myself that I'd spend 15 bucks on a dinky scope, that way if I didn't get to shoot a lot then I wouldn't have spent a ton on something I wasn't going to shoot. But I've shot it a ton. And I hit pretty decent out to about 50 yards with that dinky scope, which is about a far a shot as I ever take anyway, so I kept that dinky scope on there. |

My girlfriend's brother named his kid John Deere. Seriously.
I dig the MK23 but the regular USP45 is uncomfortable in my hands due to it being so blocky and big - I can't imagine the MK23 is any better. Still very cool though.
