It's just an OD frame that had the crappy black finish. Like most XD's, the original finish wore off and I did this. It is wearing off a bit, but only at the front corners where the holster hits from doing a lot of draws but other than that, it wears awesome...

That looks really nice! I have thought about sending mine in for the same treatment along with a trigger job and night sights while its there but have already spent enough on this gun to have been haflway to a second XD.
Should have just held onto the money and bought a second. Man.......these things are fun to customize!

Rich at Canyon Creek has done this to a bunch of XDs (KG Gun Kote actually). Some pictures are available here:
http://www.canyoncreekcustom.com/Photo_Gallery_II.php His price list states the costs as $60. Personally, I'm going to have him do one like this: http://tinyurl.com/29l9qx It isn't flashy, but I really like the subtle contrast. -Jim Last edited by Gryff; 01-14-2008 at 01:22 PM. |

That looks pretty cool. I want to keep mine the way it is but if i ever get a nice little(or big) XD collection going, I would want to do something like that to one of them.

I assume it's a little tacky and you just leave is somewhere to dry for a couple weeks?
I'll be a thread stealer. Off season, that would be a great project on our black duck-hunting 12 gauge shotguns, do a simple camo pattern. Camo patterns do not need to be overly fancy to be effective- case-in-point, here is a Krylon flat camo job I did on my hunting bow (recurve), and I've had other hunters say they could not see me or the bow at 20 yards. Neither could the deer and pigs! I have a saying when in the marshes duck hunting. "There's no points for pretty out here".

It's dry to the touch in 24 hours but it will come off if you scratch it hard. They recommend you let it dry longer to get the full durability.

Did he blast off the old finish first, or did it go on top of the original finish? Also, I'm thinking about some contrast on my gun, like a dark brown or dark green. Does anyone have any experience with these colors and how they turn out (my XD has the standard black frame). Thanks, Jim |

I love this gun. If I get a tactical I want this combo.
