Shooting Yesterday

The girlfriend and I went out yesterday to her cabin and shot through 200~ rounds... She did very well (better than me I think) and really enjoyed herself.

We took some pictures, so I figured I'd share them:

My girlfriend Amber

Me - I didn't realize I had my "lean" until I saw the pictures... I felt like I was standing forward, but we were shooting slightly downhill, so I'm not sure.

Told you she enjoyed it.

And I had some fun with a Tide bottle and a gallon milk jug... Amber was able to capture some nice shots with my D50:

Cleaned up the jugs, the brass and then went home to give the gun a good cleaning.

Army - haha... I figured I'd get that sort of reply...

It's a Nikon D50 camera with a standard 18-70 lense. I've got a larger lense to snap on, but we were at a safe distance taking all the shots and they came out alright. She crouched down behind me and off to the side to snap the shots of the bottle. Set the camera to take multiple shots per second and we came up with that!

I remembered seeing a post a few weeks back about someone who let his daughter shoot into water filled milk jugs... Something about seeing the expansion of hollow points... I was trying for the same thing, but just got a big waterworks display.

I just went back to that post... It looks like the guys daughter was shooting into 3 jugs in a line... The first would explode from being hit but my guess is that the bullet stops somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd jug. I've got a PM into him to see if that's how it works.

As for rules and what not... I'm sure the local ranges around the area wouldn't approve of shooting that stuff... However, this is land that's owned by Amber's grandpa... He encourages us to go over and shoot as often as we can (not only does he encourage us to shoot because he loves guns, but he wants us to get use out of the cabin itself)... This is just a big path that runs down to her families tree stands they use for deer season. They've got areas setup at 50 and 100 yards to sight in their rifles from the pavillion area you can see behind some of the shots.

Biff - thanks very much, she'll appeciate those comments. When I first got my gun, she had a real hard time shooting it. It was constantly jam on her, where the fired round wouldn't eject and then she'd get a feed failure. I watched her pretty closely and couldn't figure it out. She shot my sisters boyfriends XD-40 (he recently sold it and didn't ask me if I wanted to buy it, so I'm upset at that) and she shot it without any problems... Yesterday, she had 2 that jammed on her, but again, I couldn't figure out why.

Anyways... Like I said at the beginning, she actually shot better than I did. I went out by myself 2 weekends back and shot amazing! I'm not sure what was going on yesterday.

Again - thanks for the comments.

Ack! They were in the range bag! I usually have them on when I'm shooting. For some reason, I didn't yesterday.

Very neat pics Simon...the pic of your gf with the muzzle flash is awesome! I don't know if you've seen it already, but you should check out theboxotruth.com

lots of ammo testing (like the milk jugs) and other cool stuff like testing in vehicles, etc.
