My Duracoat Project
I said I'd post pictures when I finished it.
My project is a Mossberg 500 I picked up at an auction for cheap. Here it is broken down and cleaned up a bit: ![]() Then I sand blasted it with the 180 grit aluminum oxide from LCW: ![]() Finally I used the hobby air brush kit from LCW and an add on regulator (the one on my compressor is stuck wide open). ![]() I'll post pics when I get it all put together. But I'm waiting on a new stock, the one on it was cracked in 3 places.

I'm thinking of doing a Stainless Steel job on my 870 in the next week or so. Probably use Moly Resin or GunKote, but can't wait for the after pic.

It's #6 Parker. Supposed to look like parkerized. It's actually a little lighter than the pictures make it look.

I really like that color. What color of stock are you getting. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I actually like the pictures better than how it looks in person.
I'll try to photo it under a more natural light and see if I can get it closer to what it really is. I'm just putting a wooden stock on it. Also need to get a new front bead for it. The goober headed previous owner had some how managed to replace the front bead with a Phillips pan head screw. They also cranked the c-lect-a choke down so tight I needed a pipe wrench to get it loose. Anyhow it was a fun project, and I was amazed at how easy the Mossberg 500 was to detail strip and put back together. Next up is the S+W Model 10.

I forgot to post my Duracoat lessons learned.
First I was amazed how easy it was to work with, even with the cheap single stage air brush you buy through them. So Here is what I learned. 1. Clean the garage before you start your project if you do a lot of wood working and have a lot of dust in the garage vacuum it out. Dust over Duracoat makes it look like crap. 2. Do not wait until you have freshly painted parts in your hand to figure out where you are going to set them down to dry. (Work it out before hand, have someplace sturdy to stand or hang the parts.) 3. Don't expect your freshly painted parts to stand up on end if you bump the table they are on. (side note Mossberg 500 barrels survive a 3' drop onto concrete floors pretty well.) 4. If your freshly painted parts fall over and get marked up it's pretty easy to put some Duracoat Reducer on a paper towel, smooth out the rough spot and layer some more Duracoat on top. That covers it up very well. 5. You don't need to buy extra reducer for clean up. Duracoat cleans up very well with regular old Lacquer Thinner from the auto parts store. Just use the reducer for the final wipe down.

I'll have to try the Lacquer Thinner, I'd been useing acetone to clean up but it starts to melt my gloves after a while.

I got the stock replaced and took the shotgun out in the sunlight for a photo. ![]()
