Keep it up! You'll be a mirror shine if you take your time and go slow..
Go to your local auto parts shop and buy 600 grit sandpaper... You'll be able to use the barrel as a mirror...

that looks real good. i was thinking of doing the same thing to mine but i can't visualize how it would look like on my gun. I have the same one that is in my avatar.

I used a two part buffing wheel w/ grease and compound. The guide rod is stock, I did both the rod and barrel. It was definitely a labor of love sort of thing, not something you do in 10 minutes. Went back and did even more, got it to a mirror finish, but can't say I like it as much as the semi-dull pictured above. Oh well, nice Sunday project and free too.
