Maverick 88 HD-My First Shotgun

I've wanted an HD shotgun for some time but it wasnt in the cards for a while. My priorities were reliable, cost effective, (in case it becomes evidence) easy to work on and upgrade.

I've shot plenty of shotguns but this is MY first.

I happened across this Maverick on our very own Trading Post and purchased it for $160 shipped plus a $15 transfer on my end....not bad IMO.

It came with the ATI Folder, stock pistol grip, ATI forend pump (which will not work on the 88...no biggie) and shoulder strap.

The only thing it didnt have was a bead sight, which isnt too important. A quick email to Mossy and they sent me a brass one for FREE to replace the missing one. I decided I wanted a cooler, if unnecessary, one so I purchased a Hi-Viz bead and installed it.

Here it is.

I have a Tac Star side saddle shot holder on it's way as well.
When budget allows I'll be selling and replacing the ATI with a Knoxx BreachersGrip or CopStock to help cut down on percieved recoil. The ATI is nice but I'll take a 50% recoil reduction any day.

I'm so happy! I know this is a "cheapie" but I'm thrilled. I'd love to have a super duper mega ultra expensive bad a$$ HD shotgun, but what's the point if it ever becomes evidence?

Ha ha...something tells me the only way this will EVER make it into the mall is if the Zombies attack and I end up living there.

I too, own a 12ga Maverick 88 for an HD shottie. Mine just has a pistol grip, pretty much plain jane. No folding stock, no bbl guard no sidesaddle. I would like to put a sidesaddle on it though to hold some extra rounds.

I did take it out last fall to put a few rounds through it. With 7-1/2 shot, I was hitting 3 out of 5 clays... yep, clays. I took a few shots with 00 buckshot. I was 2 for 2 hitting clays throw into the air with the 00. Both shots dusted the bird, hehe... good enough for me!

Recoil with both 7-1/2 shot and the 00 was very manageable and less than what I expected it to be. I would hate to be on the receiving end!

Nice! Just a thought on improving patterns and altering recoil. Having the forcing cone lengthened will spread the recoil impulse out some and improve patterns. I had my 500 Persuader threaded for chokes and it was $ well spent as well!

I am loving my brand new Mossberg 590 MilSpec. I love it and rub it and hug it. Every day.
