That was from the fobus holster I used a couple of years ago. My new Comptac does wear on it a bit but not as bad as the Fobus did!

Yes Canyon Creek did the lightening. It wasn't cheap, but it achieved the look I wanted. It also makes it a lot easier to pull the slide back.

Other than the looks and ease of racking the slide could you tell a difference in the recoil or muzzle rise, or something that helped the shooting side of the coin?

I really think that the gun has less recoil but that might just be in my head it is really hard to tell because I don't have a stock XD to shoot anymore.
