Our 1911. Need help ID'ing.

I say our, because it is technically my dads, even though I am the only one who shoots, and cares for it. I don't know too much about this pistol except the following:

It belonged to my great uncle, who gave it to his brother (my grandfather I think). My father inherited it awhile ago. I have checked the serial on it, but have come up w/ mixed results on actual date of mfg. I'm sure there are people here that can help me verify a specific date.

This is the first pistol I ever shot when I was younger. Pretty much retired it since I got the XD45.

I did the best I could w/ the photos. Thanks for viewing.

The best I can do for you:
Quote:
Colt M1911 British RAF Contract: S/N W91,100 to W110,696 = Jan. 22, 1918 to April 28, 1919 (Approx. 10,000 pistols were shipped to the Royal Air Force from this serial number range and were .455 Webley caliber.)
I believe this would be accurate. From the pics you posted, it appears to have the non-scalloped trigger housing, short hammer, and short beaver tail tang. Can't really see the front sight, but it looks to be the short narrow one. These iteams were changed in the early 1920's on models Colt produced. The grips on this one would be of the 1911A design, but that is not a good indicator of production year as these were commonly swapped out.
You can call Colt and they can give you an idea. They also have a research service, but it can get spendy.

Incidentaly, it looks to be in really good shape, so you might want to get it appraised. I don't know the antique 1911 market, but some of them are worth thousands!

That's a beautiful gun. You could ask around on

and get more information.

That cirlcular wear above the serial number I am assuming is wear from a holster (We still have the original leather that came w/ it.)

Thanks for the info, I'll check out m1911.org
