New toy...

Helped out a friend last week and took a Mini-14 off his hands. Just got a Mo-Rod today and installed...

Ready to Rock N Rolla!

I'm looking forward to shooting it for a second time this Friday. We'll see how much of a difference the rod makes after it gets heated up a bit.

I have never heard of the Rod mod. Yes, please range report when you heat that thing up.

It was my first rifle.

This is an original Mini-14 with the 'thin' barrel and is known for heating up and shooting high ("stringing up"). At a certain point, Ruger started producing the Mini-14 with a thicker barrel to deal with the issue and those guns don't really need a stabilizer. This aint one of them.

This one defenitly needs a stabilizer to help it deal with the heat. I picked up a bunch of target ammo today...gonna heat it up good Friday.

I have had mine since the mid 90's; I bought it used. It is so easy to clean except you have to clean the barrel from muzzle end. Or, you can insert rod without the brush and screw it on when it's fully inserted. Kind of a pain.

Factory mags are expensive but I have found 5 aftermarket that work flawlessly and were cheap back in the day. This Mini has been 100% reliable.

The other day I took the bolt completely apart, not too bad.

Let me know if you have any problems with yours, I might be able to help.

Here is mine. Soon to have AR company.

So I went over to Ruger today and found my serial number to be somewhere in between 1985 & 1986. I'm thinking about contacting them for the specifics, but at least I know the year(s) it was produced in at this point...

Alright, the Mo-Rod is a certified winner! I put about 150 or so rounds through it in just over an hour and it held the same group the entire time. The rod defenitly is a help for the older lighter barrels. It also seemed like it helped it dissipate heat quicker as well.

A well spent $95, IMO.
