Any Mt Bikers here (just picked up another bike)

Yep, I used to be a fairly serious mt biker. Still own my old Gary Fisher (made before Trek bought them and cheezed out their bikes) and its a 94 model. I always wanted to upgrade it and start riding again. Especially since my daughter is currently digging my wife's old mt bike that I fixed up for her to ride.

So while perusing the pawn shops (for guns and tools) I came across a bike that was NOT your average pawnshop beater.

What I bought was a 2008 KHS XC-140. Full suspension, aluminum frame 28 speed mt bike.

Whoever owned it made several upgrades to the bike - probably what pushed me to get the thing. The guy added a air cushioned Rock Shox Tora suspension fork. The spring rear shock was also replaced with Rock Shox air suspension.

The bike also wears Shimano LX shifters and deraileurs and a sweet set of disc brakes. Bontrager rims and a nice WTB saddle round out the bike.

The bike has a few scratches to the paint but no major dings and everything is tight, even if it does need a good tune up and the rear tire is pretty worn out.

My price...out the door? 300 bucks! Hell, the bike alone, probalby sold for at least 800...then add the air fork and the rear air suspension and the LX shifters...well over a grand for sure.

If my camera on my BB took a better photo...I'd post it, but the bike is back home in the garage right now.

Just thought I'd post...any of you serious mt bikers know that this was a screaming deal on a fairly mid-range full suspension bike with some decent upgrades.

Now...I need to find my old helmet and go join my daughter on some rides! Woo hoo!

I tried the mountain bike thing, I bought a Gary Fisher as well, but waited too long. Too old and too slow in the reaction department. Now I ride recreationally on my street Cannondale. Changed to thinner tires, a lighter front fork, shortened the handlebars and added bar ends. Lots of bike paths in my city and surrounding area. Plus a couple really nice mountain bike courses in the woods. Watch out for those buried tree trunks.

Me too.
I haven't been off road for while.
Put Serfas Drifter tires, SPD pedals (had crappy toe clips), and a WTB LaserV seat on it last year.
Lately riding the country roads around were I live.
Would like to get back on the trails someday.
Fixing to ride right now..

Sounds like you got a deal on the bike BB240..
I have a Trek 6700 I bought 7 years ago.
The shifters crapped out and I replaced them SLX shifters.
Should have done it long ago..
I also added Strada Cateye Wireless computer to keep track of my rides..
It is great that you are riding with your daughter..

Yep, I took the wife's old Gary Fisher Tassajara and fixed it up, since my daughter was outgrowing her Mongoose BMX bike. She loves it and wants me to go off roading with her.

I hate riding a bike on the street. Too many morons in cars that are busy with their phones to pay attention to me. Trees are easier to deal with! LOL

Yep, I figured this KHS bike was totaly worth it, as it would take more than 300 bucks to upgrade my other old Fisher. Besides, I always wanted disc brakes and full suspension. The newer air suspension rides like a motorcycle suspension...comfy!

I need a set of tires badly...so its time to peruse the web for a good set. I used to run Ritcheys or Contis on my old Fishers...might have to try something new on the KHS.

I also need a set of shoes, as this bike came with clipless pedals.

...this ought to be big fun, though!

You wouldn't be interested in an used set of ATB pedal clips and cleats (attach to any bike shoe) would you? I took mine off and put them back in the original box and stored it in the garage. I could take a photo if needed, I know all are different.

Haven't Mountain Biked in 12 years. Gary Fisher got bought out by Trek? Crap, they were my favorite bikes. My wife still has hers in the garage. I thought about getting a Mountain Bike again but I'm not sure how much I'd actually use it. Like others I'd probably ride it around town.

I had a $200 Giant that I tricked out with XT and XTR everything. It was hilarious looking at people eyeing my gear then be confused about the cheap looking frame.

I have a single speed 29er I LOVE, and an "old" paramount RS-60 that I ride often. My Road bike is a Fuji Roubaix Pro.

Nice grab BB!

I live 5 minutes away from some amazing mtb riding here is Colorado Springs so I ride a lot!

I started riding with a Trek OCLV rigid, light but harsh. Then in 95(?) I got a Gary Fisher Mt. Tam that I rode forever, it was a great bike.

Now I have a Yeti 575 (team colors) that's an XT, Sram XO build. It's my favorite bike for Colorado riding so far. I just finished building my wife a custom pink 575 with close to the same build as well, we're addicted to Yeti.

Excellent, I have a Cannondale Mt bike. Full suspension, not too bad on my old bones!

I love Gary Fisher bikes. It all started with the Hoo-Koo-E-Koo GD Edition many years ago. Still ride a GF now. Nothing too aggressive since I broke my collarbone 2 summers ago. Great score on the KHS for sure!
