I have a 93. First the 17HMR cartridge is a flat shooting rimfire. It affected by wind at distances from 50-100 yards. She will do EXTREMELY tight groups to 50 yards with ease. 100 yards, they are still good. The guns are great. Cleaning is a PITA with anything other than a boresnake due to the small .17dia rifling. The only other crap thing about them is the mag. I have one of the first 17s with the accutrigger. about 50% of the factory Savage mags actually fit. They have great customer service, I have sent back 4 mags and they have rapidly exchanged them. Not sure if it was the gun or a manufacturing defect with the magazine, but their customer service is great. I say the only mods needed is ammo. Now go have fun. Top photo is my old man having some fun with it, the 17 is great as a trainer for childeren as well.
