Then you could get into the markings as well like the armory... for instance mine has a star on the receiver for the "tula" armory.. there are fanatics out there that have to have a certain model made from a certain armory at this date and time.. it can get really technical at times looking for certain markings and what they mean. Some of them have numbers on the barrel designation the accuracy ie. 1 or 0 being sniper grade and they do gown from there.

Soviet M91/30

here is all you need to know basically, hex receivers are more "collectable" and rifles from tula are also more sought after. happy hunting.

the fourms are gunboards and the more strict and meant for only the most serious collector at 762x54rfourms.. Id suggest registering at gunboard fourms and learn about ted and his fourms before going there lol.

My local hardware store has em for 89 bucks with bayonet sling cleaning kit and 2 ammo pouches. Luckily I know him well enough that he let me open the boxes and look at them. as soon as I saw a hex I got giddy and then came the star, was even better! I also picked up a round receiver with a star as well, not that there gonna amount to a whole lot .. there still a cheap rifle.. markings or not, I guess its just a personal preference.

ALSO! if you can pick through em.. look for matching serial numbers. Quite a few are mix and match. It can cause some issues like headspacing problems as the bolts were commonly swapped out on them.

not all matching numbers mean jackpot, most mosins during the refurb process were scrubbed and force matched ect. so finding a unrefurbed or non import marked mosin is what a lot look for.

Dont think all mosins are cheap and are only good for going BANG!, ive seen a lot of rare expensive rifles meet their doom (bubba) because of that. know what you have! an M27RV is one of the rarest mosin nagants and has been reported to sell for 5 K. one was found here in wisconsin that someone sold for $200ish and didnt know what he had. ( only 300 exist 200 of which are in finnish museums). When I first started I was going to scope a Original 1937 unrefurbed non import marked 91/30 and I am glad a didnt...I have not found one like it since.
