not that it would make a difference to an angry spirit or anything but the mosin guys were on our team.
maybe he was upset the rifle was taken from his homeland.
I suspect mine was used in combat. the date on the receiver put it right at WWII and repairs /wear on the stock make me think it wasn't used for guard duty in a palace somewhere.
first thing I did was clean it up and strip the caked on finish off of it. it made the wear and repairs more apparent. I like the natural wood look on it. I just used some low gloss tung oil. I think it turned out ok.

Go over to Lone Wolf on 51st & Peoria, they had a bunch there for $99 so you can hand pick the one you want. I got one and it's a blast to shoot and pretty damn accurate, probably more accurate than my shooting ability.

The ammo is so cheap you do not feel bad after slinging tin of 440 down range That is what is so "GREAT" about it Try buying 440 rounds of 30.06 for 70 bucks and see why the Mosin is so "GREAT". I also love how they said the M44 was so abundant and now they dried up and are commanding 250 and up . Glad I bought my 2 for 99 bucks a piece 2 years ago . Everyone should own at least 2, I have 2 91/30's and 2 M44's and they are GREAT!!!!!

Why yes you should get one but be careful to not catch mosinitis its contagious ! hit up the gunboard fourms mosin section and they will take care of all your needs or 762x54r.net. and leave the old warhorses alone please lol...sorry thats the purist in me coming out we are in a constant battle with bubba.
the dark brown one in the middle is a finnish capture from 1905! if that rifle could talk....
A lot of the time the barrel will look alot worse that it really is, ive seen some super dark bores that was filled with crud and all it needed was to be shot very fast 5 times and cleaned hot immediately after and a soak with some breakfreeclp and had a mirror bright surprise at the end.

I used to say "everyone should own at least one SKS"
Then the Chinese import ban happened and the other Iron Curtain SKSs dried up and the SKS became a 300+ dollar item.
Before that, I used to say, "everyone should own a Mod94 Winchester 30-30"
Then Winchester discontinued the Mod94 and it became a 500 dollar collectors item.
The Mosin is about 79-100 bucks and the ammo is cheap, too.
Yes, everyone should by a Russkie Mosin and a span can of 54R....before it goes the way of other cheap and common rifles! LOL

Yep, get one definitely, if you can, get one with a hex receiver! (slightly more desirable)

the receivers are a hexagon rather than round. Usually made during non war time and seem to be a bit more attention to detail as they were not trying to slap em together to get em out to the troops asap... or so it was explained to me.
