I may have to try the CLR, I just got a Mosin and after I got it all cleaned up I fired a couple shots. Then I wet a patch with Hoppes 9 and the patch came out blue, so I ran a bunch more and it was still coming out blue and black.

Think I will plug the barrel and fill with CLR and let it sit for a bit.

Meh... considering I can hit less than dime sized groups at 50 yards all day, I think the barrel of my 10/22 is just fine

I don't expect it to shoot as well as a new rifle. though I would like it to. lol

I just got it for cool factor and see what I can do with an antique rifle. if I need to start dumping cash into it I would rather just buy a 700 sps. ya know?

how can I tell a "bad" barrel? the rifling seems ok. its very apparent looking down the barrel. how much should be there? its not as crisp as the brand new AK barrel for sure.
What ammo were you shooting? Was it the corrosive surplus?
A guy at Cabela's told me to clean the bore with Butch's Bore Shine. The stuff is sealed in a bottle and stored in a second container. In case eats right through the first one.

There you go. Sounds like a good choice.

Clinton, I wasn't refering to your 10/22, but if you keep running a brush on a drill through it...well it might get to the point of shooting silver dollar size groups at 50 yds.

I know you werent directly, but I was just counterpointing that if done carefully and correctly, the copper brush isnt going to do anything to the steel barrel... copper jacketed rounds I would guess have WAY more force going through the bore than a copper brush chucked up low speed...not that I am recommending this cleaning method as it obviously isnt the best way, and if you F up you cant un-F up

I know a mosin shoots high. "if you hit them in the face aim for the belt buckle" type deal. my brother and I had it out last month and it was like 4 feet high at 100 yards. I hit 1/10 on the gong @100 yards.

I am not sure how much is me and how much is the rifle because with my new rifles I am not that good at 100 yards.

well... the one I just picked up is "60" on top and "76" on bottom. I may have gone through my 87. they are all silver tipped with red seals on them.
