10/22 project

I'm making a few upgrades to my 10/22 and need some help. In this case I'm not making a bench gun, but rather a "tactical" fun range toy. It will be a bit of work and I actually would rather have an M&P or 522, but like the uniformity of magazines since I have other 10/22s.

First, I saw Volquartsen and Clark triggers on Midway, but wasn't sure if there was a difference. Also, which kits/parts would I need? Some just have the trigger while others are much more expensive.

I'm also adding an extended mag release, extended charging handle, upgrading the extractor spring and adding an automatic bolt release. Unless it's a mistake most of these parts are going to be Volquartsen.

As for the stock I'm between an Advanced Technology 6 position side folder and a Tapco Tactical Intrafuse.

Thanks for any help you all could give me!

Hi.

Just some opinions here, I'm no expert.

You seem to be making more than just a fun range toy. When you start adding VQ parts, you're spending some serious money. The hope is that you'll get a really precise gun with all of that stuff, but it's still only a 22.

I have a Ruger 10/22 and I put the Tapco stock on it. I love it. I replaced the hammer, altered the bolt release myself with a Dremel, and put a muzzle flash on it for looks. It also has a Bushnell scope. It's looks good, it's pretty accurate, and it's fun to shoot.

I'm foregoing all of the major trigger and bolt mods though. I cant justify all of that money for a 22 range gun. Now if I lived on a ranch and was plinking small varmints, maybe I could justify it. But I think what I've done is fine for the range. Have fun with it. Here's a good site to check out...

If you're gonna start messing with the trigger, just get a KIDD unit, and don't look back - Welcome to Kidd Innovative Design

But be warned ... ALL your other triggers, on ALL your guns will suck !!!

As for the rest of their line ... Get your checkbook out ... Their stuff is awesome.

ETA: Their Match Barrel made anything larger than a popsicle stick at 50 yards boring.

+1. I have his two stage trigger, 18" threaded barrel and a B&C Anschutz stock topped with a 10x Super Sniper. It is by far the most accurate 10/22 I and many others have ever shot. I stopped shooting at the 100 yard steel plinking range and brought it over to the big boy rifle range as there was nothing small/challenging enough to shoot. I've covered a few 10 round shots with a quarter at 100 yards. Entire rig including the price of the base 10/22 is about $1270. I only feed it Aguilla 40 grain rifle match.

Those Hornet drop in triggers would probably be more in my price range for the one I'm making. How do they compare to others out there? Thanks for the links to the Kidd! I saved them because I intend on decking a bench one out later with something along those lines.

Would either of these be an alternative for the one I'm working on now?

If you have the room, try balloons tied to bushes at 200-250 yards, and remember at those ranges, the drop/wind compensation is almost equal to a .308 at 800 yards

Sorry, I have no experience with the Clark or Volquartsen trigger kits.
But I'd not knock their products !!!
Have you been to RimfireCentral.com - Rimfire Community! ?
That's where I learned about the KIDD.

I have used KIDD triggers before and i have Kidd parts in my rifle. I ended up buying the horner trigger though and i am very happy with it quality and nice clean break no issues.

Try hornet triggers, in my opinion EASILY the most trigger for the $$$$ in a 10/22. I have 3 of them, all good no problems. I send my trigger packs to them and for under $100 I get back a great trigger for a great price. Check them out: www.hornetproducts.com.
