Unless the rifle will be for bench only, then a Kidd trigger would be a waste of money IMO. A 6oz trigger is great, but dangerous for plinking. Of course you could have the Kidd adjusted to a heavier pull, but then why spend the dough on a Kidd.
It doesn't matter how much money you dump into a 10/22, it will never be as accurate as a nice bolt 22.
Here are some instruction I wrote up on how to do the trigger yourself:
Some 10/22 modifications
|
Mine is set at 4oz and I've never had a problem with it.
I've beat the heck out of the rifle, and it won't go bang, unless you breath real hard on the trigger
And that bolt v semi thing is kind of a misleading statement, unless you're comparing full-tilt bench guns ... And even then, you're only gonna see, at best, groups that are about a tenth of an inch tighter, if things are set up well for each gun ... I.E. custom guns all the way, fully tweaked, with an ammo diet that is specific to the gun, and the ammo has been measured, sorted, and all the other stuff needed do to shoot insanely tight groups.
5 shot groups hiding under a dime @ 50 yds are easy with either setup, if you do your part.
IMO most of it is the bolt to barrel relationship, finding the right ammo, and making sure the barrel is properly fouled, and rarely cleaned.
ETA:
But I'm sure you already know this ... So I'm just clarifying for any who run across this thread.
Are your actions/barrels bedded ?

The truth?
I have a mid-50s made Remington 511 boltgun that wears a cheapo Bushnell 3x9x32 scope and with just about any ammo, I can get dime sized 50yd groups.
The rifle ran me 85 dollars from an pawnshop and the scope was 32 bucks at Wal Mart.
Accuracy does not HAVE to be expensive.
(I have a semi-modded 10-22, too but it won't touch the old Remmy!)

I would buy a base model and build from there. You cant even buy the receiver from many companies if you want to do it from complete scratch.

I did just that and yes, it was not overly expensive and did the work myself.
I bought a basic stainless 10-22, then dropped it in a Tapco M4 styled stock. Next, I added a VQ target hammer/springs that dropped right in. Then, came the Tactical Innovations 25rd mags.
Those three mods gave me a totally reliable hi-cap 22 plinker with a very decent trigger for not a lot of money. The VQ hammer set up was about 35 bucks from Midway. Bought the TI mags for 40 bucks a pop. The Tapco stock came from e-bay at about 75 bucks. Pretty cheap and easy mods that took maybe 30 minutes to install.
Just those mods alone made TONS of difference in how the little rifle shot and I stopped right there.
