Question Best value $100-$300 rifle scope?

Planning on buying a .308 rifle either a:
- Remington 700 SPS or
- Savage 10 10FP

Need recommendation on BEST VALUE scope less than $200 (can go up to $300 if really needed). It will be used for (occasional) deer hunting and I want 3-9x40 (at least). I want one that will last since I believe/plan on buying once.

I also need help choosing good mount and scope rings.

If there is a good package deal you can recommend with any of the rifle stated above that would be super.

I am not in a hurry since the purchase may not happen until late summer (unless I find a great deal before hand).

Thank you.

PROSTAFF | RIFLESCOPES

I just replaced a cheap Simmons scope with a Nikon ProStaff with the BDC reticle for around $180.

This scope is very clear and IMHO, a great value.

this is on an entry level Savage model 11 that I bought as a package deal at WalMart.

Two good deals in your range (in my opinion).

SWFA Riflescopes Millett Riflescopes Millett Tactical Riflescopes

SWFA Riflescopes SWFA SS Rifle Scopes SWFA SS Scopes

I like both of these lines. I have two of the 10X rear focus SS scopes and they have served me very well. One is used on a semi-auto 308 and it has held it's zero with no issues.

If I was going with a 1-4 or 4-16 I'd get the Millett.

Just depends on the distances you believe you will shoot at most often. If you'll use it up close (no farther than 200-300 yards) you might want a good 1-4 to allow quick follow up shots and doubles. The 4-16 can cover both close and long shots with the chances for doubles being a slight bit less. I really like the 10X and the rear focus makes it easy to use from 10 yards out as far as you want to go, but it's going to be difficult to get the doubles with it.

If you've never looked at either of these two brands, they are at least worth your time to look at as a possibility.

Good luck

Gonna sound like a broken record, but here's my Millett TRS-1 4-16x50 scope on an EGW picatinny mount and Burris XTreme tactical 30mm picatinny rings. Perfect fit on my 10FP LE w/flip-up scope covers installed:

MidwayUSA has the Millett on sale for $296.99, and even has a coupon for $10 off $100, $20 off $200, or $30 off $300. I can put the coupon codes up if anyone's interested, should apply to almost everything Midway sells.

$100 or more - Use Promotion Code 100310
$200 or more - Use Promotion Code 200310
$300 or more - Use Promotion Code 300310

+1 for the Prostaff. I have one for my 308 and I love it. Less than 200 for the scope, its one of the clearest scopes I have used, BDC is a pretty nice alt to mil dot and its a nikon, life time warrenty, they are the glass makers for their own stuff, and its pretty close to prefect for what you are going to use it for. Good luck buddy! Oh and that one above mine, looks sick. Id buy one if I wanted to spend 300 clams.

Are you referring to Buckmaster?

I can actually get any of these then...
Prostaff 3-9x40 for $135.
Prostaff 4-12x40 for $147.(leaning towards this two)
Buckmaster 3-9x40 Buckmaster for $185. (leaning towards this two)
Monarch 2-8x32 for $258
Monarch 2.5-10x42 for 315.

Okay...I have a Prostaff...I just replaced it with a Federal Intensity (don't laugh) that I got at Sportsman's Guide. I have a few of them now....both AO and Aspherical versions. They are well under $100 and are incredible for the money. They are actually made by Weaver.

Here is the link:

I put a Nikon Buckmaster on my hunting rifle.
SWFA Riflescopes Nikon Riflescopes Nikon Buckmaster Riflescopes

I'm not sure if it's the best value, but I like it.

Edit, I meant i would buy the Millett. If I had the money. That looks sweet. I have the Nikon Prostaff on my mossy .308. Its the 3-9x40 with BDC. The BDC runs about 20bucks more than the ones with out it, if I remember right.
