My father, grandfather and brother all have 500's with various xtra barrels. I have the 870 Express 28" and 21" slug barrel. It's much more solid and tight, the slide doesn't rattle, there are fewer parts on disassembly, and plain better looking IMO. The crossbolt safety is also more intuitive to me.

As far as Saigas, Benelli's, Beretta's, HKs and anything else you can dream up, you're paying way more than I did for my 870 and it has never once jammed or failed to go bang when I asked it to. It's a classic. You can trick the hell out of an 870 for cheap if that's your thing and xtra barrel won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Though the 18.5" Mossberg slug barrel is cool.

i had a 870 tac set up which i sold but it was a great and abosulely reliable gun... perfect for hd, but i sold mine because i wanna go auto... so im thinkn remington 1100 tac 4... or an oldie just redone tac.. something like this... SM-1 Mossy Creek Custom

Nice gun, but I decided to buy American.

Rem 870 20 ga (so wife will shoot it) 18" 7+1 with a Knoxx. It's real fun to shoot. I'm planning to get a longer barrel so I can shoot some birds this fall.

Even being 20 ga & using low-recoil ammo for her and she still doesn't like it too much.

Ammo is a little limited with 20 ga, but that could just be the selection up here in Alaska.
