SIG 226 .40 vs. XD .40

In the very near future I will be selecting a duty weapon, and I am stuck between these two pistols. I actually currently own both, but in different calibers, as I have a Sig 226(DAK) in 9mm and an XD 45 service.

I have been told by quite a few XD owners that the Sig handles the .40 better than the XD, plan and simple the XD is a better 45 and 9mm gun.

Thoughts?

The Sig may handle the 40cal better because it is heavier.
I feel the 40 is a snappy round with too much muzzle flip.
The XD45 compact I recently sold handled the 45ACP round very well.
Less felt recoil than the 40 IMHO.
My Sigs are more accurate than my XDs.
My daily carry is either my XD9sc, or Sig P239.

Why don't you use one of the guns you have now?
I'm not LEO, but I feel either a Sig 226(DAK) in 9mm or an XD 45 service would make a great duty weapon.

If you are set on the 40cal round, rent both and see for yourself if you can.

My duty weapon has to be a .40, I do not like the .40 caliber and I wish I didnt have use it for duty. I love my XD45.

What I like about the XD series is how well the grip suits my hand and the blockiness of the slide, but the SIG is a sweet firearm.

Maybe an XDM???

I've held an XDM at the gun show.
It felt really good in the hand.

At least your department didn't say you had to carry a Glock.
I sold my G26 to buy my XD9sc.
Glocks are great guns but don't fit in my hand too well.

I'm a bit partial to Sigs, but you can't go wrong with an XD40.

How do you like that DAK trigger?
I've got a P229 SAS on order with the Sig custom shop.
I asked for the DAK trigger on it.

I have shot the P229 SIG with the DAK trigger in 40 and it was not bad at all.

I actually own three 40s: an XD-40 Service, a Glock 22 and a Beretta 96F. The Beretta 96 has some of the lightest recoil of any 40 I have ever shot. But its a big, heavy gun so its not going to be really snappy. The XD-40 and G22 are snappier, but nothing I find too jarring. The HK USP full-size in 40 is another soft recoiling 40...about like the Beretta 96.

I have heard stories (and I don't know how common this is) that the P226 in 40 is not as reliable as the 9mm P226. The Sig Forum has several posts from people that complain about the 40 P226 being not as reliable as its 9mm cousin. I don't know for a fact, though. My G22 and XD-40 have been 100% reliable...but I see posts here all the time about the XD40 not being as reliable as the 9mm version. Again....that has NOT been my experience.

If you get a chance...I'd really try to shoot both and decide. If the snappy recoil of the 40 worries you....the Beretta 96 and HK USP fullsize had the least amount of recoil, as far as all 40s that I have shot. Those might be worth a look. I'd also give the Glock 22 a look. God knows it is tough and reliable.

One WILL stand out to you...but it might take some test-firing to find this out.

I think that sigs are too overpriced. But then again I purchased an HK that is also very overpriced lol. The USP Compact is very nice, but again very over priced, you can get an XD for much cheaper and it is just as nice. I also am not to thrilled about .40 cals, I prefer .45s, but I would go with the XD. My brother has an XD40 and it is a very nice piece.

I hate to say it but go with the SIG. My XD40 was pretty snappy until I changed the guide rod spring and added thumbrests to help the vertical recoil. Now it shoots great, but you don't want to have to fiddle like that with a duty gun.

If you already own a 226 and are as used to that platform just as much as the XD, go with the SIG. When I shot a 229 in .40 it was noticeably better in the recoil dept. I couldn't shoot it as well as I can shoot my XD40 now, but 1500 rounds of familiarity will do that.

Take into consideration your first shot, which is undoubtedly the most important one.
I do really like Sig's but that first pull can be beastly methinks compared to XD.

Brand new SIGs are a bit pricey, but nice used SIGs are great and very affordable.

Here is a CPO P226 in 40 for $525 bucks.

Firearms, Guns, Rifles. Grain Valley, Missouri.

Thats not "overpriced" is it?
