GSG-5 First range report.

Ok this thing is getting kind of boring.
Last night I stripped the GSG all down, had a look at it's components and their functions. It was a little gritty but I didn't know if this was powder residue or new gun grit. I slathered Tetra grease all over everything that moved inside, put it all back together, oiled both sides of the mag release slide. Boresnaked the barrel and put it away for the night.
Today I wanted to see what kind of accuracy it had at 100yds and if all that grease would slow the workings down enough to cause disfunction. First off the grease had no effect on function, it ran just as flawlessly as the other day.
I placed three unopened ( naturally ) soda cans on a cardboard box at my shooting berm and walked out to my 100meter mark ( LASER checked ). Slipped my muffs down over my ears, cycled a round into the GSG and set the rear drum to the 100meter mark. Standing with nothing to lean against I squeezed off the first round, dead soda can. The second shot, dead soda can. Third shot, a miss ( it WAS breezy and this IS a 22 ) a total of five shots later and the third can was dead. I walked down to the berm and inspected the cans. The first can was hit an inch below center. The second can was hit dead center, the third can had been hit three times with only the fifth shot blowing it off the cardboard box lol . So seven shots, five hits two misses at 100meters freehand with a 22 on a breezy day, yeah THIS ones a keeper .
About that drum sight, the 100meter aperture works just fine at 25yds too, just use the middle hole for anything around 50yds and it should be good to go with 40gr MiniMags.
In a few hundred more rounds I'll shoot for groups from a sandbag, I expect I'll like what I see.

ahhh that makes me want one even more. I hadn't heard too much review on accuracy.

I'm nearly ..almost..ready to see the justification of a $500 .22

However I like the look of GSGs new AK .22 that's coming out.

decisions decisions .

The GSG-5 is a super fun gun. I don't know why the same people who gripe about the price, will take a $250 10/22, and put $1,000 worth of crap on it. Being able to shoot a lot, for cheap, with a really cool, fun gun, is what the GSG-5 is all about.

I figure in two years it will have paid for itself in ammo costs.
