It had the Choate Varmint stock, Sharpshooter trigger (approximately 2lb pull), and scope base/rings. The price tag read $600.00. Is this a good deal for a used rifle accounting for the $300 bucks someone put into the stock, mount, and trigger? The action seemed pretty slick. I had read that the 10fp series actions were a bit rough compared to the remingtons. Are the 12 series a better gun?

The rifle appeared to be in really nice shape. It is definately a beast of a gun though, it made the 700P LTR that I handled their feel like a little kids toy. I almost bought this rifle, but decided to do a bit of research on it first. What are your thoughts guys/gals?
That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Of course a lot depends on the condition but with a SS barrel there shouldn't be too much wear and corrosion. What quality rings/bases are on it?

My rig is a Savage 11 in .308 with a 22" regular barrel, a Choate Ultimate Varmint stock, bipod, and Mueller 8.5-25x44 scope w/ Warne rings. Using Lithuanian surplus 7.62x51 I can get groups @ 100 yards just under 1 MOA. For me, this is really good (which basically admits that I'm no sharpshooter and am pretty new at this).

I don't have any experience with custom trigger jobs or high end rifles but I've shot a lot of 'stock' guns and the Accu-Trigger is the smoothest trigger I've ever shot.

The Savage 12 with a 30" SS barrel would be interesting to shoot. One of these days I may investigate swapping the barrels.
