I know I posted a comment on here yesterday about how hard it was to shoot a 308 past 600 with a short barrel. Anyway.........if you get the Savage, you can do all the upgrades yourself. And when you get the money, you can replace the 308 barrel with a 6.5, and get better ballistics with less recoil and cost.

With good match ammo, I don't think that 1/2MOA is too much to ask from that setup. I built my gun as a 300-600 yard gun with the capability to go further if I wanted/needed to. I may actually rebarrel it for .260 Remington if/when I get to the point that I need a new barrel. With the cost of ammo being what it is, though, I may never get there. |

With the 5-8000 round barrel life of a 308, you'll be lucky to get there. And if you do burn it out, we'll all be jealous.

Especially now that my 6.5 Grendel AR has really caught my fancy.

There may be better rifles out there for a little more money but the Accutrigger can ruin you for all but the highest end triggers after firing one. That's my humble opinion. I test fired several bolt action rifles including Cooper and a Bushmaster Varminter (token AR
After all that, I ended up buying a Savage .17 HMR with the Accutrigger and a Fulton Armory FAR 15 Predator with the Accutron National Match barrel and the standard Fulton Armory hand tuned RRA 2-stage NM trigger. What a SWEET gun and the trigger is as good as a 2-stage gets as far as I'm concerned. The Accutrigger on the Savage .17 I got is the best feeling rifle trigger I have fired so far but I confess I have not fired a lot of hand tuned NM rifles either.

Plus out of the box for lower end rifles Savage is a tack driver. Yes you can get better with custom and high end rifles, but for the price I'd go with a Savage anyday, even without the trigger. Add the trigger in and it's a no-brainer unless you find a great deal on another rifle make IMO.

oh and if you plan on swaping triggers at some point you couild save yourself some money and get the stevens version but since you want the heavy barrel it might be cheaper and better to just get the 10FP
i also have a stevens 200 in 308 and the trigger even though its not a accutrigger its still pretty nice |
