Swiss K31 Thoughts?
Ok, I am thinking of the vintage rifle match that my range does every other month or so and these are allowed. I am really leaning towards getting one but could I hear some personal experiences? It will always be open sights and stock, but from what I'm hearing these things are tack drivers, one report I read the shooter said it was more accurate that an M14(M1A). It will be for 1 to 300 yard shooting on occasion at targets. I just want the good, the bad, and the ugly before I pay a couple hundred for one. Thanks in advance.

I see that you're a tarheel also. If you're close to Wake Forest you can try mine out for size.

the only bad i can think of is the ammo isnt cheap and and the ammo isnt the most readily available. I am gonna order up one and a persian mauser the moment the ban goes through and there are no more mean black rifles available for brasky.

The K-31 is one of the most acurate military rifles available.
They are a joy to shoot. And the military ammunition is of Match quality. Here's a post about them. Educational Zone #26 - Great Firearms - Swiss K-31 Rifle - Page 1

I live in Chapel Hill and shoot out at Mebane(DPRC). From what I've seen the ammo is a hair cheaper than 308, and it won't be a plinker, just occasional shooter and a few vintage rifle matches. I too like my black rifles, but I also like the older rifles too. I have a Mosin Nagant, but that's not much for accuracy, not that it's bad, but I wouldn't shoot it in a match. guess the main thing is at my range, in the morning they have the high power rifle match, which I shoot my AR, then afterwards they have the vintage rifle match, and I want something to shoot at that that I feel confident in. I know I need to get another Garand(I'm a dummy for getting rid of the ones I had), but to get one up and going for a match can be a little bit of cash, where the K31 looks like it is really cheap and a great shooter at the price. Once again thanks for the input, good or bad.

A friend of mine bought one here lately, and we shot it a couple of weeks ago. I have shot & owned many military rifles over the years, but this one is a sleeper. I didn't think much about it when my buddy told me how good it shot, but when i shot a 5 shot 2" group @ 100 yds. with iron sights, i was impressed. That Swiss K-31 of his is the most accurate military straight pull rifle i've ever had the pleasure of shooting.
I'm thinking about getting one myself. |

Can these be found online anywhere? I'm thinking of having my local gun store order one but want to check prices first.

I have one I use for service rifle open sight matches and I consistently out perform M1A1's, Garands, AR's you name it. Ammo is less than .308WIN and is getting easier to find; it seems to come in in waves. The triggers are better than most new rifles and can be lightened if you know what you're doing. No one I've met with one has ever told me they regret the purchase and a few people who I've let shoot mine have bought their own.
