Schmidt Rubin > Mosin + XD Porn

I was going to pick up a Mosin for about 80 bucks but fell in love when I saw this and did some research on it.
SwissRifles
I was sold. Was at a gun show in Pa a couple weeks ago and now am I proud owner of a 1936 Schmidt Rubin K31 rifle. Sweet Straight pull bolt and I must say this thing is nasty accurate for being 72 two years old. Plus the machining is beautiful.

I have a very old marking on the top of my bolt and appears to be cursive "D" any ideas?

Here are some gun porn pictures with my Xd too.

There is no finer bolt-action rifle than a swiss.

Which gun show did you get it at? Do you live in PA? There was a big one in Philadelphia and another in Harrisburg recently. If you are close to either place, I'd love to see this rifle. I've been thinking about getting one, but I just wanted to see one in person.

Where do you find the ammo for it?

Most on-line ammo venders have it available. Prices on it have stayed steady since it's less common. It's now slightly cheaper than .308WIN because of the jump in ammo prices.

Don't think about buying one, just do it. The stocks tend to be ruff but don't let that dissuade you, the metal is great and the bores are pristine. GP11 (the military ammo) is match grade and non-corrosive, and Swiss riflemen took good care of their equipment.

When I'm doing my part behind the trigger I can neuter a fly at 300yrds with my K-31.
I only shoot with irons since I use it for matches and can't use glass, but I put a scope on it for a bit just for fun and got sub MOA groups with GP11.

I'd like to get something that shoots really well at long distance without spending a fortune on it. I've heard the stocks can be messy, but can also be easily refinished.

Yeah, mine came out much better than I thought it would. I wish I'd took before pictures...or after pictures.
Maybe tomorrow after work.

I thought this was interesting and recently read it when researching this rifle after seeing one for sale on a local forum:

Quote:
The often quoted but incorrect name of "Schmidt-Rubin" comes from two designers: Rudolf Schmidt, who designed the action for Switzerland's 1889 and 1896 rifles, and Maj. Eduard Rubin, who designed the ammunition.

Although the K31 is a straight-pull carbine like many other Swiss rifles, it was not designed by Rudolf Schmidt (1832-189 as he was not alive to do so. The K31 was a totally new design by Eidgenossische Waffenfabrik in Bern, Switzerland under Colonel Furrer, and the gun does not have the Schmidt-designed 1889 or 1896 action. The first 200 K31s were made in May 1931 for troop trials (serials 500,001 - 500,200), thus the model number of 1931.

My neighbor has a Schmidt Rubin that looks like yours.

We shot it.

Very impressive, very accurate, and very interesting design!

Congrats on a very fine rifle!

Yep, the Swiss Schmidt- Rubin and the Swedish Mausers are the best of the military surplus boltguns. No doubt about it.

Nice rifle you have there.

Did you check under the buttplate to see if there is a nametag form the soldier that carried it? Many K-31s have this tag...but you'd have to remove the metal buttplate to find it.
