One of my good freinds is in the Auto Theft division of the Houston PD and he carries a SIG P220 and has done so for many years. He swears by it as a duty gun. He carries a P228 off duty. Lots of other HPD officers carry the P220, including SWAT officers.

Yeah, I'd say that you could do ALOT worse for a duty weapon than a P220 SIG. My P220 is the most reliable single stack 45 I have ever owned. I'd never get rid of it....45s that give no troubles stay in my collection forever.

Be careful over there...and thanks for your service!

Good to know Houston's finest carry a Sig! I know a few cops out here that carry Sigs also. They like them alot as well. They are great guns.

The very best Duty 9mm I ever owned was a Sig P226. It was accurate, reliable, fun to shoot, easy to reload. It was great. I completely and totally regret trading it in for Glock 9mm. One of the dumber things I have ever done. If you get a Sig you'll have an accurate, reliable, and otherwise excellent duty gun.

You might look at the Sig 250 too. I don't know much - at all about them, but it's a Sig so it is worth a lookover. I would absolutely love to get a Sig 220 Supermatch. That would be incredible. But I wouldn't carry it for duty...

But I would certainly "settle" for the P220 Match

or the P220 Match:

Can you tell that I really miss my Sig???!!!

I'm with Chapie on this from experience your personal weapon and mags are entered into evidence. Our SOP was the Sgt on duty gave you their sidearm and mags as a replacement. Depending on how long IA and the shooting board and case takes you maybe out a personal firearm for quite some time. For the price of a Nighthawk you can get several very high quality handguns.

I would go with a 9MM or 45 from SIG for duty if you get the option.

It's true! You'll be out your way high priced 1911 if you ever have to use it. Get a couple of Sig P220s in .45 ACP (of course). Then when / if one goes off for case / shoot review, you'll have another gun you are trained on, that fits in your holster, and uses the same spare mags.
