Let's talk wheel guns.

My Dad just got his CCW and wants me to look at pistols with him, and then show him how to shoot. I will try and stear him to an auto, but I think he will go with a revolver. Nothing wrong with revolvers, but I know little about which ones are good or bad. I believe that taurus makes a good revolver. Any other good brands?

I am a big fan of the Ruger SP101 .357 with the bobbed hammer option

...
It is a little heavy, but I dont mind. It is a freaking tank and will be around for quite awhile. Smith & Wesson makes some great ones too.. I have never owned a Tarus. I am sure they are just fine.

good luck..

you cant go wrong with a smith and wesson j frame. probably one of the most popular CCW out there. dont quote me on that.

im actually looking for one myself. a .357 to be exact. i am leaning towards a S&W j frame, but they are a bit pricey. i am hoping to find a nice used one.

but taurus has a lifetime warranty and you get a free 1yr NRA membership with the purchase of a new taurus. ive looked into them quite a bit also. i hear the grips dont last to long, the ribbed grip that is. i guess that gives a reason to buy some houges

if he just wants something that is super reliable and easy to clean you cant go wrong with a wheel gun. but xds are realiable enough for me id bet my life on mine, pretty simple to field strip and clean too.

good luck

The Smith and Wesson 642 is the quintessential pocket revolver. If he wants to carry IWB you can look at something a little larger, like a Model 60 or 640.

I would have to suggest the SP101 from the good folks at Ruger. I just got myself a GP100 in 6" which isn't very concealable. The folks at ruger seem to have made a great jump in quality even though they have always been of top quality. Everyone says that ruger needs better triggers but mine is great with room for break in and I would believe that it was fit with care from the factory since the trigger group and frame have matching hand engraved numbers on them. He should go with the SP101 and use the money saved on the smith and wesson to buy ammo so he can get good with his weapon. The smith is also a great weapon and some taurus revolvers can be reliable and would trust them as a range gun but not a super reliable life saver. Either way good luck and I hope your father has a great and safe time with his new life preserver.

QFT

I love my Smith 649 bodyguard. .357 mag with a 2" bbl and an "enlcosed" trigger that allows for DA/SA without having the entire hammer exposed.

There is nothing in the world finer than a reliable wheelgun in your pants. Sounds like we need to talk YOU into a revolver. :P

Go all American -- and with a company that hasn't ever lobbied for magazine capacity restrictions... And never use a caliber that doesn't start with the number 4

How about the Smith & Wesson Model 40 "Lemon-squeezer"

Small gun w/Classic looks, Grip-safety for added peace of mind + No ugly Lock hole!

+1 for Ruger
