It is a little heavy, but I dont mind. It is a freaking tank and will be around for quite awhile. Smith & Wesson makes some great ones too.. I have never owned a Tarus. I am sure they are just fine.

good luck..
That is a fine looking pistol. I have experience with Ruger quality too. I know the pistol isn't going to be for me, but I love stainless steal.

I've got a better idea of what is out there. Thanks AZ and everyone else.

Chapie+ loves his S&W 642.........
And I love mine as well..

As the consensus goes the S&W 642 or the hammerless Ruger SP101.
The Ruger is about 9 oz heavier, but allows you shoot 357mag or 38sp.
But that extra weight either bogs you down or helps with recoil.
Depends on how you look at it.
I feel 357mag is a bit much in a small frame with 2 inch barrel.
I shoot & carry 38sp+P in my 642.
My Dad owns a small frame Taurus 38, but I tend to stay away from the Taurus pistols.
I took my Dad to the gun show for Father's Day.
He is about to get his CHL (CCW) and I think I've got him leaning towards a Ruger LCP.

Please let us know what he ended up with...............

All the revolvers suggested are excellent choices. A couple of others to add to the list would Charter Arms and Rossi. Both are easily concealable as well as affordable. A guy I work with carries a 44 special Charter Arms as his back gun and likes it. I have a Taurus 45 Colt w/ a 2 inch barrel. I can carry under a t-shirt and no one is the wiser. You've got a lot of shopping to do.

Good Luck

All guns mentioned will serve you well. I opted for the Ruger SP-101 with 2" barrel.

A ported barrel probably is not the best idea for CC, in a low light situation, you are going to get muzzle flash worse than an non ported barrel which could temporarily night blind you at a time you definitely dont need to be...

Taurus makes a good revolver I have a Model 605, which is a Jframe knock off...

love it, if you (or your dad) has bigger hands, you will want to swap the grips ( the larger size grip is available from the factory for like 9 bucks... yeah as mentioned, they have a lifetime warranty as well

Your top three choices are prob the Taurus, Smith and Ruger models

I agree. That is the same exact gun that I have and use for carry. It's great. Wouldnt trade it for anything.

1lowlife,

Yeah, I do really like my 642, but I don't have those cool grips you have. Those are sweet. Do you notice a reduction in recoil with those neat CTC grips? I always admire those pics!

The next trick will be figuring out which pocket holster to get. I am intrigued by the Mika holsters. I am waiting on mine, in the meantime I have used a folded sock in front of the gun and it breaks up the outline and keeps the gun upright. It is NOT as good as a pocket holster, but it'll work for now. I often forget I have the 642 in my pocket. It really is that light. A decent wallet in the other pocket breaks up the outline of two speedloaders next to it.

I'm contemplating a snub nose .38 or .357 for my next purchase, if my usual gun fairy takes much longer finding an available Ruger LCP.

S&W would be the first choice. Everybody I read says the Ruger is on the large side for pocketability. If I can't swing that, Rossi, or I'll take another stab at owning a Taurus.
