Ernst Thaelman VEB ("Volkseigener Betrieb or people owned factory). You'd see these more on AK-47s( MPi-KM) and AK-74s and AKS-74s (MPiAK74N, MPiAK74N)

Not to be confused with the Suhl emblem, but sometimes you'd see both on the same gun...you'd see these more on Makarovs

and the shining 'C' mark, and the 'y' surrounded by dots (sorry, no pics of this one.)....

just a proof/inspection mark...these pistols are considered the very best in quality besides a Russian. It is very typical for them to have more finish wear (from holsters) than anything else. i bet the bore is pretty much new inside. Thats a really nice piece and more collectible people may think. Good price too. my '61 and '62 cost me $350 and $400 each 2 years ago....

yeah the bore is pretty much mint, i had it apart earler looking at it, im assuming its crome lined, and you could see the recoil spring in the reflection in the bore.

the fit and finish is what sold me, im kinda a sucker for mirror blue lol.

Wow...I have a carbon copy of that pistol! Right down to the grips.

I also have a 1986 Bulgarian military Makarov that was brand new when I bought it.

Have you shot it yet? You'll be amazed at how accurate the Makarov really is. Both of mine are very accurate and 100% reliable. The shoot as god or better than any Walther PP or PPK I have ever shot.

For some reason, the Makarovs are much better finished than most Iron Curtain firearms. With their high polish and nice fit and finish, they go against the "rudimentary but effective" feel of most Cold War small arms.

The Makarov is still a frontline Russian army and police issued pistol....even today. That says something about the design and its quality. I have seen very recent photos of Russian policemen and women in training and they were shooting Makarov pistols.

I really like mine and have actually carried my Bulgarian Mak concealed in the summer, because it is small and very effective.

Be sure and get one of the original East German holsters and some spare mags - they're not overly pricey. Don't be surprised if you don't end up with another...they're very addictive pistols.
