Many of the small .380 pistols have a snappy recoil. I have a Walther PP (not PPS) and a Sig P232. Both of these are more uncomfortable to shoot than my XD40 Service or my P239 9mm. She should try one first, to see how she likes it.

I've held one, havne't shot it. I'm planning on buying a 9mm PPS eventually...it's small and light, so make sure the recoil isn't bad.
Also, Walther has some teething problems with newer models, so make sure the one you get has had all the bugs worked out.
