My wife and I found a Colt C.C.O. at a small local store, and picked it up for about 800 bucks, she got home and told her friends on 1911.com and was getting offers of 1200+. Its always nice to find a good deal. Best part is it was her V-day present, and she said if I got it for her, I didnt even have to take her to dinner

Colt = at least 150 bucks per letter, so your buddy made out like a bandit!

Oh yeah, we figure its worth at least 700 with a crappy finish..lol When its all done, I would put money on it being a 1200.00 gun

Sounds nice!
I too have a satin nickle Combat Commander that was made in 1973. Got it from a pawn shop about 5 years ago and thought I got a deal at 500 bucks, OTD. You STOLE that one at 300 bucks. Yes, the satin nickle Combat Commanders were not all that common. I have had many people offer to buy mine, especially since it is an earlier "series 70" style pistol. Mine is a good shooter....now....but did not start off that way. I had to replace every spring in the pistol and change the extractor and ejector (to Wilson parts) and now it runs 100%. Colts reliability was VERY hit and miss in the 70s and 80s. They're beautifully made and finished guns and usually very accurate..but sometimes reliability was way off. No biggie....Wilsons has everything you might need to make it 100%. A great shooter and pretty accurate, too. Its amazing that chopping 3/4 of an inch can make THAT much difference in the handling and carrying quality of a 1911...but it does. My Combat Commander is one of my favorites...old school cool. Enjoy it...its nice to have an original article in your collection. - brickboy240
