.22 LR Rifle Project
Hey guys
i came across this and the idea just grew and grew here is what i want to do. I wanted a ruger 10/22 since it so versatile and fun to shoot, however this option here seams better. going to get a ruger charger 10/22 pistol Ruger 22 Charger Rimfire AutoloadingPistols get a one of these (AppleJack Red/Black) Boyds' Barracuda Laminated Thumbhole Stock Ruger 10/22 and also one of these (black) SBX Barrel - Barrels and Uppers - Tactical Solutions Or maybe one of their red Bull Barrel to match the stock... and trying to get a fake SS can to top the barrel (I dont care if I cannot kill squirrels quietly or not) And Voila! what do you guys think? Cannot wait... its going to be sweet! Any suggestions are more then welcome! |

I don't follow your thinking.
If (BIG IF) I understand (which I don't) your idea - to buy a Ruger Charger pistol and then put a rifle stock and rifle barrel on it - that leaves me with a question, WHY? Why not buy a 10-22 rifle - for less than a charger - and swap out stocks and barrels, as many do, and spend a lot less money doing it. Also, the moment you put a rifle stock on your pistol you have just broken Federal Law - see BATF and NFA regarding creation of a short barrel rifle. Better bet is to spend less money on the 10-22 and replace the stock and barrel and avoid 10 years time in a Federal facility. Chapie+ Quote:

charger over 10/22 rifle, because if i wanted i CAN get a pistol AND a rifle. if I get a 10/22 rifle and changed the barrel, what am I going to do with the extra barrel? Ebay it? so charger is an extra 50-70 bucks, i will have a pistol and a potential rifle . So my understanding of the law, so i can put a long barrel on my charger right? i am not breaking any laws so far, then take off the charger stock, now i have a firing mechanism with a barrel, then put the riffle stock on it, so when do i break the law? If I am worst come to worst cannot I loosen the barrel and the stock then retrieve them a the EXACT same time... Will i be breaking the law? |

I think that he wants to be able to have the rifle with the option of having the pistol. I assume (could be wrong) that the reciever of the pistol is the same as 10/22 rifle receiver. Surely when the receiver is mated to the rifle barrel and the stock it will not be considered a pistol anymore. Then you could easily change it back to the pistol if you wanted to. I think that would be cool because you would not have a brand new stock and barrel laying around as you would if you bought the rifle just for the 10/22 receiver.

I have also wanted to build a 10/22 but did not want to buy a new gun and sell the stock and barrel for next to nothing. If there is nothing illegal about this, then I might have to think about it as well when some funds open up in the future.

Turns out you are not the first to think of this idea. Here, look at this: Can a rifle be made into a pistol legally? [Archive] - THR Chapie+ |
