Sorry for all the goofy questions on hogs .... we just don't have them here in the Pacific northwest.

If you don't eat what you harvest then what is done with the rest? Coyote food? Bounty?

For eating take only sows that are young and under 100lbs. Everything else.... "Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms"

Agreed. I personally don't like to kill anything I don't plan on eating and the last hog I shot was a boar at around 225-230 lbs maybe (picture is posted somewhere on the board)..it was edible but not near as tasty as a lower weight sow. The perfect wild pig IMO is a small 45-50 pounder smoked on the grill.

So judging by the multitude of vid's I've seen it appears possible to shoot these darned pigs from as close as a few yards to what appears to be a 100-150 yards. Can they be aggressive such that you had better get a good hit when close or you're gonna get your own ass handed to you?

Back to the videos ... seems like there are a bunch of people who like to post their shots to YouTube more so than making the shots count on the first try.

Bring ear plugs and a Magnum.

Go big or go home

Have this baby holstered and filled with 240gr of murder.

I should be out there in a week or so. I'll take pics and post.

I've been charged more than once. Oddly, both times I was lucky enough to be by a ladder to climb! First time was when I walked up on a huge boar, a few sows and a bunch of babies and the boar charged me. I had a 30-06 and could have taken a shot but I was about 15 feet from one of the 5 tree stands on my property..so I just climbed it. and let them all go. It was too big to eat and I didn't want to kill and just leave it.

2nd time I was doing yard work..I had just leaned a ladder up against a tall light pole to change out bulbs..I left ladder leaning..and then starting raking the yard. I hear a squeel behind me, turn around and a small boar (75 lbs or so) was running towards me. I climbed the ladder and watched my dog jump on it. I jumped off the ladder and went inside, got a rifle and shot it.

These were weird instances though. I can understand the first instance where it was protecting its sows and young..but the 2nd one was early in the morning and pretty random. 9 times out of 10 if a wild pig sees you, it's going to run and try to get away...at least they do around here.
