Exclamation Looking for a .22 handgun for plinking...Any advice (with pictures)

I'm looking for a 22 handgun for plinking since ammo prices are through the roof. I'm trying to keep this project within a budget of around $300.00. The purpose of this gun is just to go out and have fun, get my wife interested in shooting and also to use as a snake gun when I'm camping or hiking. The sound of a .45 going off attracks a little attention in the woods.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and if you could provide pictures it will make the decision making process a little easier as well as add a little spice to this otherwise boring topic.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Browning Buckmark, and my Dad has a Ruger 22/45...both are nice little plinkers bought for the same reason that you are looking for one: cheaper ammo.

I will say that Dad had some trouble with his Ruger, but I'd chalk most of it up to just getting the thing broken in. You really can't go wrong with a Browning or a Ruger...but that is my .02

I bought a Ruger MKIII Hunter last year and its very accurate. This model runs about $400 but you can find the non-hunter models within your budget.I had a Ruger MKII bull barrel a few years ago and it to was very accurate. No malfuctions of any kind with either one of them.Ruger makes a great 22.

Totally agree with the Mark II suggestion. I picked this LNIB up for $250 I think, with the sights and grips.

It's very accurate and fun to shoot.

Everyone always recommends the Ruger or the Browning .22 pistols. I have a Beretta Neos and I really like it. I think your wife would find it very easy to shoot. I think it would be a good starting pistol for teaching a young child to shoot.

Here is a pic of mine:

If snakes are on the menu, then you will get better results with a revolver. Snakeshot .22 cartridges will function in a revolver and not in a semi auto. Then again, I could never understand the snake concept as far as guns go.

If you can see the snake, you can avoid it.

If it's right next to your leg (it's too late), I doubt any sane person will share a mini shotgun pattern on the snake and the other half on your leg!

Any of the semis already mentioned will be good fun to shoot. I like the Rugers

We have a Neos and know a few other people that own them as well. Everyone I know that has one really likes 'em. Very accurate for a .22 of its price, and pretty well made. We have the 6" and the 4.5" barrel for ours....its been money well spent. Beretta even has a kit to convert the Neos into a carbine rifle but I think they are still waiting for some sort of legal approval before they release it, not sure if it will ever be released, but it sure would be cool...

Heritage Rough Rider .22LR/.22MAG interchangeable cylinder. This was my first handgun for about $180 NIB. It's a fun gun. My wife loves it. She calls it "Cowboy Gun"

Love my Ruger MkIII 22/45. I really like the 45 grip angle and controls. I got the blued 5.5" barrel, but you can get in 6 7/8" or 4" too.
