I would have to buck the trend and say a FAL, M1A, AR10 would be your best bet. Utah has a lot of wide open areas not suited for a shotgun or a light varmint rifle. If I were you I would be looking for something that can reach out and touch a bad guy or a Elk or a Deer and get a .22 pistol for potting small game. Maybe strap a folding stocked rifle sighted shotgun on to your bug our pack. Oh and a trailer for all your ammo. I'd have to hire a couple of serpa's.

I'd lean towards what I own, and carry a shotgun and a hunting rifle.
