I bought the Benelli SuperNova (not to be confused with the Nova) with an 18.5" barrel, plain rifle sights, and comfortech stock.

I looked at the 870 and the Mossy, but the Benelli felt better to me.

It penetrates far less than my .45 does...

What front sight is that?

I own a Winchester Defender 1300 and keep it next to the bed. Here's a pic:

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on a Mossberg 930?

M4

I like the Mossberg 500/590. I too crave mil-spec hardware. I had a 500 persuader and slapped some hogue grips, sidesaddle and light on her. Gun w accesories added was maybe 350 bucks. I like the tang safety and where the slide release is located compared to the 870. Unfortunately I traded in the 500. Rems new 870 Tactical Folder ran me 400 bucks. Tried and true 870...nothing wrong w it but im still particular to the Mossbergs tang safety. You want amil-spec semi-auto...Benelli M4!!

I've noticed the bolt release location behind the trigger guard was awkward to operate on the Mossy with a pistol grip buttstock. With a standard stock, I too like the bolt release location on the 500 but with the pistol grip buttstock I preferred the 870 location.

I handled the Mossberg 500 Tactical 6RD when I was shopping and found that I had to turn the trigger guard up a little and actually look at the release to get good purchase on it with my finger because it was tight up against the pistol grip.

Just my observation.

I've got one and have had it for a couple of years. When I got it, Mossberg offered a combo with a 28"VR ported barrel and an 18.5" cylinder bore. I think they still have that but you can ask around to see. IIRC, it was around $425. I wasn't thinking of it as a SHTF gun but for that price I figured WTH. It'll take 2.75" and 3" shells. Mossberg makes a similar gun that'll take 3" & 3.5" shells.

I got it mainly for sporting clays and it's great for that--nicely balanced and has a gas system & buttstock recoil pad that make it a joy to shoot. It's always been easier for me to shoot a semi-auto rather than a pump.

At home I leave the short barrel on it. It's pretty maneuverable that way. I think if I were going to use it as a tactical shotgun I'd replace the stock bolt handle with a bigger, "knobby" one. Nothing wrong with the stock handle but it's kind of small if you're reaching for it in a hurry if you had a jam at the worst possible time. You can get a pistol grip for it--Mossberg makes an add-on grip and Choate sells a PG stock--but there has to be a 'rifle stock' on it somehow b/c the bolt recoil spring extends back into the stock so no pure PG option. Choate also makes mag extensions for it that go up to 10 rounds I think but if you're using a short barrel I'd be surprised if you could use one that was more than 7.

Works well for me and I'm happy with it. Great value for the money.

I love Remys and Mossys but kinda hard to beat my Winchester 1300 for $265 OTD.
