Lightbulb Contact Hogue or Pachmayr to (re)issue Sig 225/P6 Grips

Anyone with energy and thoughts on how we can see if Hogue will make a batch of grips for the deluge of Sig 225/P6's that are now available?

Maybe someone can draft a template letter or thread (maybe even Google app?) to track interest and anticipated volume so they can ascertain if there's enough reason ($) to make a nice batch of sweet Hogue grips.

Please spread the word to other forums.

Thoughts?

or atleast lease the mold to a third party vendor, if its not profitable for hogue maybe a smaller outfit can make money doing it.

They've already said it's not profitable due to the cost of the molds.

houge made the molds already and stopped producing them, i thought thats what i read in a previous post. Thats why i wondered if the molds are made and just sitting in a storage room moth balled, couldnt they bust them out for the infux of thousands of new P6 owners eager to dump the cheap plastic stock ones. I am not in the mold business, but it seems the major cost would be refining the orginal design, seeing it they can replicate it consistently, QC checks, marketing etc. They already have the mold, have QC, have marketing, already tested it etc. Hard costly stuff is already done, and the labor is already on the payroll, just add a few shifts to these old molds and produce a couple thousand of them. Thats the way i imagined it anyways.

At the moment the gap is being filled by mid-level grip producers. There's already 2 (and maybe more) sources for wood grips besides the high level Nills. I purchased a set of the $70 grips that are showing up on eBay and I'm quite happy with them.

Are you sure Hogue made grips for the P225? I did Google web and image searches and I couldn't find any P225's with Hogue grips.

Here is the email I just sent to Hogue:
To whom it may concern,

I recently purchased a surplus Sig Sauer P6. The P6 is the German police version of the standard P225. It is one of the hottest selling surplus handguns on the market right now and they are being imported into the U.S. by the hundreds if not thousands.

I love my P6 and a set of Hogue wrap around grips would make it even better. I urge you to consider producing a batch of grips for the P6. If you do decide to produce grips for the P6 I pledge to purchase a set provided they are available for less than $40. Please notify me if these grips do become available.

Sincerely,
...

just checked ebay there is a pachmayr grips for cuurent bif price of $99 with 5 hours to go, its gonna end up being $110 -$115 rubber grips.

Sig Sauer P225-P6 Pachmayr Signature grips - NEW IN BOX - eBay (item 120261089404 end time May-18-08 18:04:01 PDT)

i think they could sell the p6 grips for $35 dollars all day long, compared to $18 for p226 grips, make a tidy profit. Clearly some folks want the rubber grips on their new p6 vewry badly to pay over $100 plus shipping.

I've emailed back and forth with Ron @ Hogue a couple of times today. Hogue definitely does not have a mold for P225 wrap-around grips. It would cost $40k to make up such a mold and being that the P225 is no longer in production they can't justify the expense and man power necessary to create the mold being that there is a finite number of these pistols in use. I was hoping we could get some sort of a pre-order or escrow system started to show them we were serious but even at $100 each it would take 400 people coming together just to have the mold created. That would be a huge undertaking by the community.

The good news is that they are planning on making aluminum grips for 2009 and maybe wood grips after that.

Maybe if there is an enthusiast on these boards in the rubber/plastic prototyping industry we might be able to get a small batch of grips made up for a reasonable price, but that is a really _big_ 'if'.

Here is the latest reply I received from Hogue:
Quote:
Trust me, if we did have a mold in moth balls like the blog was stating
we would have it in current production to help the folks out by giving
them a quality product for these 225's at a fair price.

Due to scheduled projects currently we would not be able to even start
on a CNC program to do our Aluminum Extreme grips or Wood grips until
late 08 or the first of 09, sorry.

If and when we do come out with the Aluminum Extreme grips or Wood grips
we will have them available at a fair price inline with our current grip
offerings from Hogue.

We appreciate everybody's input on these 225's and I have tried to
answer each person's email request in a timely matter.

Thank you again Jon and please feel free to check back latter in the
year or first of 09.
