Remington 700 Identification Help/ Resale Value????

I have a Remington 700 that was passed down to me that I am looking to sell. How do I tell exactly what model it is, are there any stampings I should look for?? It has a very nice gloss finish stock and the barrel/receiver is a polished blued finish. It also has a very nice jeweled bolt. The rifle is in .270win and is in FANTASTIC condition.

Any idea how I would be able to tell the model and resale value???

Thanks,

-Derek

I can't quite see the area in front of the trigger guard.

If it's just wood (ie blind magazine box) you have a nice Remington 700 ADL.

Value kind of depends upon what scope is on it (looks like an old Bushnell or Tasco). I'd say somewhere around $350-$400, unless I'm wrong and it has some real high end optics on it. If it does have a nice scope on it you will probably get top dollar by removing the scope, putting a cheap Tasco from Walmart on it and selling the scope separately.

There should be some embossing on the back side of the extraction port (the left side of the receiver). That will tell you the model number. Also, on the same side of the rifle, further up the barrel there should be more embossing with more info (chambering, etc.). Also, there is a number inside the receiver. I can't remember where it all is for sure as my rifle is at home and I'm at work. But those should be for sure.

Thanks for the replies.

I was kinda hoping it was worth more then $350-400. I am seeing similar rifles sell new for $700-800 and this rifle is almost better then new. It does not have a single mark on it, looks like it was handled with gloves its entire life.

What is the most I could get out of it??

After reviewing all the photos I'm fairly sure, not 100% but fairly that you have a Remington Model 798. Again I could be wrong but I don't think I am!

The barrel and receiver are marked Remington 700 so I'm positive its a model 700. I will call into Remington tomorrow and have them check the history on the serial number. Hopefully they can tell me the date it was made and an original options and value.

The model that I find to be most similar is the 700 CDL. Only differences being mine has a high gloss finish stock and open sites but lacks the drop away mag that the CDL has.

Looks like a Model 700 ADL. The BDL has a black cap w/white spacer on the forearm end.

Here are a couple more pictures:

Derek,

I checked out the Auction sites (Auction Arms and Gun Broker) and used Remington 700 ADL's are selling for $350-$400 max.

The new ones that are selling for a higher price are different models. You can buy a brand new 700 ADL for around $400, but it will have a synthetic stock and matte black finish. Here's one, brand new in the box for $388.

AA Auction 8515060 (Ended 03/12/2008, 12:52:35 PST) 700 ADL YOUTH NO RESERVE

Do a search yourself of the auctions sites and look for similar guns that have actually sold.

Here's one in .30-06 with a Nikon Scope (pretty decent glass) that the guy was asking $435 and it didn't sell:

AA Auction 8471660 (Ended 02/18/2008, 17:57:36 PST) MODEL 700 ADL 30-06 WITH NIKON3X9 SCOPE

Here's one without a scope that did sell for $280

AA Auction 8494522 (Ended 02/28/2008, 13:02:34 PST) Model 700ADL .30-06cal Bolt Action Rifle w/ rings

Here's one with a scope that sold for $400

AA Auction 8514723 (Ended 03/09/2008, 09:45:44 PST) 700 ADL-.30-06 with scope nice wood

Here's one in .270 with a scope that sold for $366

AA Auction 8524377 (Ended 03/18/2008, 13:44:41 PST) Model 700ADL .270 Cal Bolt Action Rifle w/Scope

You can hope all you want and you can ask whatever you want for it. But used rifles do not sell for the same price as new ones, unless there is some sort of collector interest in it. If I'm right and it has a cheap scope on it and you can get $400 for it you are doing pretty good.

How do you tell if it's ADL, BDL, or CDL (and what does that all mean)? I have this exact same gun in .30-06, with the same gloss finish, the same stock, same engravings on the stock and forearm, etc.
