I've been considering buying a SKS also but just got an original stock (with handguard), gas piston, operating rod, 10 rd magazine, magazine release, and sling so am now looking to buy parts and hopefully build one. Do you guys think this is a good idea or would it be cheaper just to buy a complete one somewhere?

keep your parts as parts and buy a complete gun, dont think you will save much if any thing trying to piece and build one

but extra parts are going to be good to have down the road if bans come back.

There is an SKS that has been watching me every time I go to the range. It sits there like a ninja, motionless, blending in with its surroundings. Back in the corner, it stalks me, watching my every move. I have approached it before. It taunted me with its unfired status and it tried to use my members discount against me. It spread rumors of its kin, bathed in cosmoline, just waiting in the back of the store for me. Trip after trip it haunted me, begging for my attention. So sly, this one.

For weeks this went on. I see it, it sees me. An uncomfortable situation. Thoughs of SKS past, raced through my mind. But I resisted. I teased it by looking at the sporterized Enfield, just a few feet away. Another, yes another, held the Enfield in his grasp and toyed with my mental state. If I miss on the Enfield, the SKS knew it would be next. Awash in the situation, the devious gunstore guy saw he opperrtunity and pounced.

"You know", he said slyly, "You could get both". Both I exclaimed. He then proceeded to tell me that not one, but two, or more, long guns could be purchased with but one phonecall to check my backgound.

Oh, the treachery of the SKS. He was in bed with the the gunstore guy. No sooner did this transpire, then the shorty Enfield made its way, back to the wall. In a moment of weakness, brought on by the constant onslaught of mixed emotions, I said those four little words that change everything.............. I'll take em both.

End of story.....who knows. But the greasy SKS from the back is now residing in by safe, still in its box, waiting. Waiting for me to clean its shroud of protection off of it and bring it into the world, in all of its never-fired-Yugoslavian glory.

What I am trying to say is get one.

That is a true story. I brought it home today.

I went to many of my local gun shops today to see if any had some SK's in stock. Only two did, one of which was a Norinco and the other had a Yugo. The shop with the Norinco said Yugos are #@&% which I didn't totally agree with.

But I had an WTB ad posted on craigslist and someone replied today that had a Norinco Paratrooper still in the original box for $150! So of course I drove about an hour and picked it up. All matching serial numbers. Muahaha I'm excited!

very good deal. I wouldnt have managed to pass that up. Yugos are much crapier than norincos atleast the ones i have run across. They have gas problems, no chrome lining, and they are heavy. Go norinco or russian for the win.

true it is sorta bull dog homely, but the SKS is pure utilitarian like a jeep, which makes it cool.

The real question is it ugly enough NOT to buy one?

i think the answer is certainly not. Hardly any gun is that ugly to me. Maybe the highpoint carbine and the other ridiculous gun highpoint makes i forget the model name.

Does anyone know if there are any removable mags that will work with an AT Fiberforce stock?
