Traded for a Hi-Power

As I've stated in threads about Hi-Powers, I am surprised about my luke warm feelings about the Hi-Power considering my love of the 1911. This past Friday night my next store neighbor called and asked if I would trade my S&W 686 for his Hi-Power. Now this is not just any 686 I have. It was a limited run Black Stainless made in 1988 and had never been fired. I found it at Gander Mountain and it was from a 50 piece collection of various guns they had bought from an individual which had not even been logged into inventory yet. I asked how much they were going ask for it and the manager quoted me $450. I said I would take it (before he had a chance to check on the actual value of it). I'm not a collector of safe queens but the price was right and it's been sitting in my safe for a couple of years waiting for the right buyer who would pay me a $1,000,000.00 for it.

The Hi-Power is a recent example that is in pristine condition with only 250-350 rounds through it. He had two ten rounders and three 13 round mags to go with it. I hemmed and hawed for about ten minutes and finally said I'd do it. I took it home, lubed it and found it worked with my CZ holster and mag carriers so I decided to try it out in an IDPA match on Sunday. All I've got to say is WOW! It shoots wonderfully. I've shot a couple Hi-Powers some years ago at a range and wasn't that impressed with it but for an IDPA match it's magnificent. I forgot my shooting glasses and was using my progressive lenses which makes finding the front site difficult so I was just point shooting and though not perfect I couldn't believe how accurate I was.

Out with the old.

In with the new.

Aw, thats a helluva revolver you traded...

Ah well, if you never shot it, this trade was probably for the better.

I only own two 9mms: a Swiss made SIG P225 and a Belgian Hi-Power. I used to own scads of others but let them all go and kept those two as they were heads above the others.

I have always thought that the Hi-Power was the best hi-cap 9mm out there. Very well made, deadly accurate and slim and easy to carry. Most other double stack 9mms feel huge and clunky next to the Belgian Beauty. They have the best trigger too (well...after you remove the mag safety). There is a reason it is the most issued military sidearm in the world. The British SAS and FBI Hostage Rescue Team carried them for a long time. The pedigree is there for the Hi-Power an I don't know why it is not more popular in the USA.

Enjoy it....I still think the best wondernine is the original. I may pick up a nice W. German P226 SIG someday, but for now, the Hi-Power fills all my 9mm hi-cap needs. It will spoil you rotten!

Looks like a pretty good trade.

Shoot a Hi-Power and you'll get it.

BTW, you will not be trading the Hi-Power...unless you go insane or start mainlining crack.

LOL!

I understand people's comments about getting rid of the revolver. It is amazing. Then again the high power is a serious piece of weaponry.
