As you can see from my signature I still have left a 4" K frame and a 4" L frame. I need a 4" N frame to round out my selection of 4" Smith and Wessons. Someday I'd like to add a 3" K frame to the collection, preferably blued or nickel, not stainless.

If they cost the same, which would you get? I just don't know enough (anything) about Browning Hi Powers to know which is the one to get. I like adjustible sights as guns never seem to be quite "on" for me.

This past Friday night my next store neighbor called and asked if I would trade my S&W 686 for his Hi-Power. Now this is not just any 686 I have. It was a limited run Black Stainless made in 1988 and had never been fired. I found it at Gander Mountain and it was from a 50 piece collection of various guns they had bought from an individual which had not even been logged into inventory yet. I asked how much they were going ask for it and the manager quoted me $450. I said I would take it (before he had a chance to check on the actual value of it). I'm not a collector of safe queens but the price was right and it's been sitting in my safe for a couple of years waiting for the right buyer who would pay me a $1,000,000.00 for it.

The Hi-Power is a recent example that is in pristine condition with only 250-350 rounds through it. He had two ten rounders and three 13 round mags to go with it. I hemmed and hawed for about ten minutes and finally said I'd do it. I took it home, lubed it and found it worked with my CZ holster and mag carriers so I decided to try it out in an IDPA match on Sunday. All I've got to say is WOW! It shoots wonderfully. I've shot a couple Hi-Powers some years ago at a range and wasn't that impressed with it but for an IDPA match it's magnificent. I forgot my shooting glasses and was using my progressive lenses which makes finding the front site difficult so I was just point shooting and though not perfect I couldn't believe how accurate I was.

Out with the old.

In with the new.

hmm well it seems it was a good trade in the aspect you traded it for a gun that you'll actually shoot and use money wise i dont know the differences honestly..i am a huge 1911 fan its my favorite platform and i see alot of things i like it the high power and some i dont but hey you cant beat the reputation of browning. the s&w is nice not really my thing but i'd probobly make the same trade after some resaerch was done. only thing that bothers me about that hi power is that hammer it looks like it has a mean bite..oh and PS nobody show Frenchy this thread lol

I can feel the hammer strike my skin but not hard enough to cause pain or mark the skin. I'm sure it will bite a lot worse after I put combat grips and an extended safety on the Hi-Power which will allow a higher grip of the gun. What I'll do then is trim the hammer spur down a little bit. I don't want a commander type hammer.

I like fixed sights so the Mark III works for me. Looks like the Standard is the model for you because you like adjustable sights. You could put adjustable sights on the Mark III but why go to the extra expense.
