Nah, I'd rather have your basic MKIII over that gussied up safe queen. Thats pimp-tastic!

Sorry...I am not into flashy or overly ornate pistols. I care more about how they function than how they look.

I once sold a Smith and Wesson Model 19-3, pinned and recessed, w 6" barrel, Target trigger and hammer with grips as beautiful as the ones on the 686, so I must be capable of selling anything.

Besides, I much prefer three or four inch barrels on my wheel guns.

I would love to have one to hang on the wall in a boxed frame as artwork but I can't afford over $3000.00 for a gun to shoot let alone hang on the wall.

Yep, a 6 inch 686 or 586 is a very heavy cumbersome gun. Best suited for range use or shoulder holster carry while hunting. Heavier than it has to be. I had a 4" 686 and it was still pretty heavy. I traded it for a 4" Model 19 and would NEVER get rid of the 19.

Still, you traded it for one of (if not the best) the best 9mm out there, so thats ok.

If you had traded for a Ruger P85 or Taurus or other "lesser" 9mm...well...we might say something, but when you trade good for really good...thats ok in my book! LOL

I've never shot a Hi-Power, though I've heard nothing but good things about them. What is the difference between the "Mk III" model and the "Standard" other than the grips and fixed vs. adjustable sights? Which is "better?" Does Browning still make a stainless high power?

The MkIII has an ambidextrous safety and other subtlties that make it different from earlier models.

I don't think they ever made a Hi-Power in stainless...the silver ones are satin nickle or hard chromed.

I was looking at the Browing website for their current High Power pistols. It looks like both the MKIII and "Standard" have ambi safety. The MKIII looks to have "low profile fixed sights" and black plastic grips while the "Standard" has an option for "high profile adjustable sights" and wooden grips. Is that the only difference: sights and grips, or is there more? I don't know - I have never shot a High Power so I simply don't know much about them other than their stellar reputation for accuracy and reliability. Any help is appreciated.

The Standard has a polished blue finish and the Mark III has a matte black epoxy finish.
