The shame of it all...
Yes, I am sad to report that I'm very close to buying a G..G...Glock, okay I said it.
I've been competing USPSA with a beretta 92F for almost a year now and it served it's purpose well. I've learned a lot and have gotten much better with my nightstand gun. But I seem to have hit a plateau (okay, a very low plateau). Anyway, I want something different. I love my XDSC and compete with it every now & then...but I find it's not the gun that I want to seriously compete at bigger matches with. So one of the guys at the range showed me his Glock 34. I really liked it. Anyone have one a G34? Pros & cons for a competition gun? I know you can do some trigger work, like with the Ghost trigger connector, etc. And the front sights are supposed to be easy to switch out...although I've obviously never done it. Just seems like parts are easy to come by for maintenance and mods. And because of the number of glocks out there, the parts seem pretty cheap. |

My best friend has a Glock 34. You either like Glock or you don't. I've shot his G34 multiple times and it doesn't fit me, I hate the trigger & grip. In fact my friend hates the grip and did a grip reduction to try and fix it. I have a hard time spending that type of money or throw more money at it to get it to work for me. I rather buy something once.
If you think it's for you then go for it. Sign up on the Glock foundation and you can get one for pretty cheap which is what my friend did. He likes his now so he says he put another $350 into it so I think he is committed.

I don't have a 34 but I have the following
17, 2 of the 19s, 21, 21SF, 26, 29, 30, 36 The 34 slide is just abit longer than the 17. There are sights and parts galore for the GLOCK. Go for it !

Glocks are like Hondas...there are parts everywhere for them, all of the teenage wannabe gang bangers want them, and you either like them or you don't.
.....Yep, just like Hondas.

I have a Ghost Tactical trigger in my Glock 22 and had one in my old Glock 17 that I sold years ago. Yes...you'll love the G34 with a Ghost trigger.
I agree with the Honda comparison. Did I mention that my ATV and dirt bike are both Hondas? - Brickboy240

Get it. Join your fellow double agents who have both. The grip just takes some getting used to vs. the XD. The tennifer finish is awesome.

I've had a G17 before and found that I liked the XD fit in my hand much better. Nothing against Glocks, they're great guns. Too many people swear by them to dismiss them just because they're not XDs.
Plus, Frenchy just said he ordered one. That says good things about them.

Well I took it for a second trip to the range, first one after I modified the trigger, etc.
I replaced the front sight with a HiViz. Works well. I replaced the trigger connector with the Ghost Rocket 3.5# and trigger spring, firing pin spring, and safety spring. I fitted the connector to reduce the overtravel. I shot my reloads and bought some crappy range ammo. All went bang. The trigger is really sweet now. The only negative was one against the shooter. I would periodically have the slide lock back after a shot and with another round in the mag. Eventually I figured out that my 2 thumbs forward grip would ocassionally push up on the mag release and lock the slide back...oops. I guess with the Glock slide sitting so low, it will take some getting used when competing. In all though, very nice gun! |

Don't worry, you're not alone. There're many people that always say "I used to hate Glocks, but now..." and "I felt a Glock in a gunshop and hated it... but after I shot it? Totally different story!" etc. etc. Too much anti-Glock bias out there, and that makes people not give 'em a chance most of the time. It's their loss, though... because Glocks are awesome pistols for those that know how to use 'em. Many, many people in competition shooting STILL use Glocks, even with other choices out there. That, as well, says a lot... doesn't it? It just takes some practice, getting used to the "Glock hump / slant" on the grip, is all. Buy a few Glock 18 (33-round) magazines, and you'll be fine. |
