Help with gun ID and history

My father in law recently bought a pistol from a co-worker. Apparently, the guy was in need of some quick cash and gave it to him for $75. I have no knowledge of this particular gun, but I told him it's probably safe to say he came out ahead on this deal. It looks to be in good shape, clean, no rust and seems to have been well taken care of. The markings on the slide say Colt Government Model 80 Series MkIV. It is a .380 caliber pistol and looks like a small 1911. Just looking to see if anyone has any experience with this firearm and what you can tell me about it.

I don't know much about Colts, but is it safe to assume ANY Colt in decent condition for $75 is a GREAT DEAL?

Very similar to that one. Seems like it's a little longer than the one in that pic.
