At a match on Sunday I was manning the score sheets until my time to shoot; when the RO asked the shooter to unload and show clear at the end of the stage, his slide flew off of his (Glock) frame and fell into the sand. Talk about a "deer-in-the-headlights" look on his face! Luckily he found all the pieces and was able to clean it and get it back together before the next stage. He figured he inadvertantly hit the take down levers when he racked the slide--glad I shoot an XD!

Most malfunctions I see in IDPA matches are 1911s and Glocks.

That would make sense. They probably dominate the number of guns out there. Statistically, if Glocks and 1911s make up 75% of the guns in the games, you'd expect that one would see more failures in those guns than any other simply based on the population.

The same logic applies to the military...if, just pick a number here, say 90% of the failures in rifles in the military are on the M4/M16. That would make sense since it's the most widely used platform by the military.

I don't think that's the case in the club that I shoot with. There's a little bit of everything. My thinking is the 1911s and Glocks are the most modified ones out there.

**** happens, it doesnt matter what you shoot, malfunctions are bound to occur at some point in time.

I'm surprised they let him shoot anymore. In my experience if you drop your gun at all, you are DQ'd for the rest of the match.

Same where I am, as far as thh 1911s. And it's rarely a box stock 1911 that has problems.
