I took the pictures right after I finished the initial clean-up. It's greased up in all the right places.

I need to get mine off to Fulton Armory for a LOT of love. Right after I buy this '67 F100, wheels, lowering kit, transmission repair, 10.3" upper for my AR... Oh God I am broke and looks like I will be for awhile!

On a side note, my uncle used to work on an old guy's farm near Arlington, OR and the guy was a marine on Guadalcanal fighting the Japanese in the second world war. He said that often the Japanese soldiers would be doped up and the M1 would not put them down with one shot during a charge. I was surprised to hear that as I have hunted with a 30.06 and always been happy with its stopping power. But it makes sense if you consider the fmj and the high velocity which was causing it to punch through without much energy being absorbed. He switched to an m-1 carbine and then later a thompson. He said that very few long shots were needed in the jungle and both the carbine and thompson had better stopping power.
He also said that to deal with that over-penetration problem he started filing the point off the fmjs and filing an "x" onto the tip. He said that stopped the japanese pretty effectively. I guess that is against the "rules of war" but if it was my ass I cannot say I would do any differently. Also, that "clang" when the clip discharged was loud enough to encourage enemy soldiers during close quarters night engagements. I just thought that was interesting. I still want a garand. |

We have a beater M1 that we do most of the shooting with. The others aren't shot very often if at all. I can't remember the manufacturer of mine. IIRC I think it is Winchester. (an original if memory serves me correctly)
