Need Suggestions for wife's carry gun
My wife is going to be getting a CCW permit soon, and we are looking at options for a gun for her. I have an XD .40 service model that I carry regularly. She's shot it, and while she can hit a target well with it, the recoil is too snappy for her to be able to follow up if necessary. She needs something with a bit less recoil that she can easily control, it must be somewhat small to conceal, and light weight. This would also be her go to gun in the home if need be.
I've considered the H&K USP Compact in a 9mm, as I've heard the recoil in that is very manageable and the size of the frame is small enough to conceal but large enough to grip well. I've also considered the FN five seven. Why... I don't really know. Heck, it's probably just me wanting a toy and trying to find an excuse to buy it. It is very light, the recoil (from what I've heard) is very very low making follow up shots easier, but the overall size is a bit large. I also worry about over penetration at ranges of less than 30 feet given the velocity of those rounds since it would also be her home defense weapon as well. So... anyone have any suggestions or comments regarding my thoughts? Oh, and one more thing.... she doesn't care for Glocks as the grip angle doesn't work well for her. Thanks! |

Ummm, lets see, she likes your XD-40sc, but too much recoil. Hmmm, now what gun is like an XD-40sc but has less recoil? Think, think, think...I know...
Get her an XD-9sc!!!

My wife just settled on the IMI Baby Eagle in 9mm. We haven't purchased yet (waiting on the good old IRS). However, previously, she noted that the Smith & Wesson SW99 (or the Walther P99) felt the best in her hand. She's fired my Sigma and my XD and doesn't really enjoy the recoil of either, so the slightly heavier, metal framed Baby Eagle makes more sense for her. It also comes in a compact version. Hope that helps.

+2 on Subcompact 9. Very managable recoil and great shooter. Also check out the S&W M&P 9 or M&Pc 9. The interchangable backstraps might be nice for her. Also a great gun.

Strange as it may seem, my wife disliked the recoil of the PM9 and really liked the alloy frame Sig P232 which she now claims as hers.

You could have tried the MK9. Steel frame so less recoil. Bit heavier to carry though. I like my MK-40.

You might want to think about a Sig 239 in 9mm.
