In 2005, profits for the world’s largest oil company were only 9.7 percent of its revenues, up from 9.6 percent of revenue in 2004, and far less than the 2004 Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) profit margin of 21.6 percent or Johnson and Johnson’s (NYSE: JNJ) 18 percent, according to data from Forbes magazine.
Within the petroleum industry, ExxonMobil was vastly outperformed by Communist China’s state-owned PetroChina, which yielded nearly a 23 percent profit in 2004.

9.6%! That's it! If I make $9,600 on a $100,000 investment in a year will you come and try to take my money away from me like the Democrats want to do to the oil companies? Companies (which are not faceless, they're made up of real people who employee lots of Americans) take what is called "risk" with their capitol and in turn sometimes are rewarded by a thing called profit. If you hate that then I'd say move some where that doesn't practice capitalism.
One more thing. Compare the taxes charged on a gallon of gas versus the profit to the oil companies on a gallon of gas. The total tax was in the trillions, versus oil company profit in the billions. I do not have a reference, but I was reading that on one ofthe other firearm-rights websites.

Saw something today that indicated that is costs:

$0.25/gal for refining

$0.25/gal for transportation

$0.40/gal for taxes
