So what you are saying is after they are taxed they really aren't making astronomical profits.
Not trying to be difficult but everything that you hear is that it does not cost any more to refine or get it out of the ground as it did say last year. Then why does it cost $1 a gal more than it did last year. Is this just a media issue too?

Oil is a globally traded commodity. The oil co's are putting out more $ to buy it. there are like 16 different blends of gas in the US to make the enviro-nuts happy. Refining is much more expensive - our newest refinery is 30+ years old. Granted, i dont like paying 3.50 for gas, but the real issue lies in the US energy policy which puts its faith in ethanol (which has failed) and continues to keep us in the palm of the middle east for our oil. Each time a lunatic in the ME opens his mouth, the price jumps...

The price is up right now because according to big oil (not sure who or what week, but he was quoted saying this on CNN) they kept prices low durring the holiday season to help us out, and now theyv got to make up that money they lost.

Could you imagin if ammo prices double next week because they had a sale this week!

Last time I checked (which was 2 years ago) there were 34 different blends from coast to coast. You are correct though in assuming that this is one of the many reasons gas is so high.

We just bought a second car, a cheap beater (that is in surprisingly good condition). Liability only insurance is $175/year, the car was $1,200, and it should save us about $150/month in gas! (those calculations were made at $3.15/gallon, it is now around $3.40, so we should save more than that)

I can hit it right now and I assure you I'm not high on any food chain. It's also floating around in new thread land.
